It is pure joy to share that our feature film 'WOLF' will be having its world premiere at @sheffdocfest in the International First Feature Competition.

Narrated through a deeply personal conversation with longtime friend Tilda Swinton, ‘WOLF’ traces the extraordinary life and battles of musician @patrickwolf.

Telling Patrick’s story has been one of the most rewarding creative journeys of my life. One that began for me as a teenager, running around London finding music and myself – I can’t wait to finally share this brave and defiant tale with the world.

Thrilled to also announce that behind the film’s soundtrack will be the brilliant Oscar-nominated Owen Pallett (@hepostsclouds), combining both original score and a unique selection of Patrick’s work, rearranged and reimagined for the film.

“I thought completion of this film would be a sense of my life flashing before my eyes, but instead, it allowed me to firmly close the hardback of the first book of my life and work that christian has so carefully bound and written over the last few years. Now with its British premiere at Sheffield Docfest, a further liberating process begins knowing christian’s film now starts navigating its way to those who need it, in service or inspiration, of or for what exactly I’m not aware of just yet, but somehow I’m hoping the film turns out not to be about me after all, it’s about you out at sea, or you stepping back to life on your wounded foot first or you at the beginning of your great adventure wondering how to stay in wonder, or most importantly, how not to.

Over these years of being documented in this film, it has been nothing but a great honour to have had my story in the hands of Christian, my music in the hands of Owen and my hand in the hand of Tilda and now we hand it over, to you.”

It's my thrill to announce part one of my "Tour Of The Beast" - this June, returning to America and for the first time since 2009, making my way through the southern states driving East to West coast finishing up with a special show on my birthday in Los Angeles on the 30th of June. I cannot wait to bring the beast your way this summer

These are all standing shows where I'll be throwing you one of my more high octane nights of music, the tour will coincide with the release of two new songs, this tour and those songs are all part of a project that exists in a valley of fable, fairytale and fantasmagoria between the album just passed and the one on it's way... more of all this to be revealed soon, but for now tickets are on-sale, head to the link in bio
for this tour we have had tostreamline and organise the meet and greet formally to make sure it can happen every night this time, I know it's a new thing for me to do and for you, but changes had to be made in order to keep the night running smoothly and all crew and venues time respected. I've prepared a limited signed and numbered print of a painting, for all those who can make it to those little gatherings and pack downs.

The setlist is to be completely new to last years tour.. perhaps you can begin to imagine where it might take us with the back catalogue.. feel free to get your requests in now..

Two weeks ‘til I get on the plane to D.C to pick up my American piano + equipment from where they’ve been sleeping in storage since November + I thought to share with you the pool of songs I’ve been preparing for the tour ahead.

Those who know, know every night of tour is a different setlist, I channel for you on a night by night basis,so these days I just rehearse, remix + prepare programming / beats for a “song list” - so, here is the one for the tour of the beast

“The Cuckoo” is an Appalachian folk song from North Carolina where soon, in Raleigh I’ll be bringing my music to for the first time since 2009, a matter of weeks now.. a homecoming for my old steed of a black Appalachian mountain dulcimer too who I’m sure will sing out just that little differently to be for the first time playing in his homeland.

I actually first learnt this song from a little chap book of folk songs from Tennessee that arrived from there with my first dulcimer I bought for wind in the wires, Tennessee is where I’ll be heading to play for my first ever concert in Nashville @3rdandlindsley after night two @thepourhouse

when I think of DC, musically, I will always think of two bands, Fugazi and The Makeup - both a glorious part of the soundtrack of my upbringing. Ive started to learn as I rehearse this month, some of the songs of the cities or states this tour will take me, perhaps to drop into the city’s set, or just connect deeper in song to where I’m going… so, here is a minute of Fugazi’s “I’m so tired” on my dulcitone

meet Ethelbert Mihni Wolf, an enchanted boy from Canterbury who has entered my world in the shadow and lossof an irreplaceable beast. thank-you for all your words of empathy and love for Percy, this wild little british short hair / persian has been summoned by the otherworld to be little brother to Hieronymus who I haven’t been able to bear the thought of growing old with out an other half.

on Monday I begin programming and producing the electronics for the tour of the beast and Its such a thrill to hear how you’re showing up for me out there in places I’ve never brought my music to in all my time as a wolf, so, before I roll my sleeves up and start designating which songs make the great song list of the beast - will you tell me what you long to hear and where out there on Junes wilderness road, if you dare.. meet me there?

the first of two new songs releasing this summer, “the laughing dove” is part of a project that stands alone between the next album and the last and will be printed up as a limited run of 1000 7” to be onsale during the upcoming Tour of The Beast.

350 copies of the 1000 i will soon announce as a pre-order via my webstore to be sent out on the last day of tour, the 30th of June for those who can’t make the shows.

this song began from a visitation of three doves on a recent writing trip to the Tropic of Cancer, a rock dove, a collared dove and thirdly, a laughing dove, the dove of the desert who initiated this song.

as i continued to write it that week I began to see I had a tool of a song to put into words my points of challenge to recent philosophy I had begun to disagree with and question in my work after ‘crying the neck’. an argument between mysticism and absurdism, Alan Watts vs Albert Camus perhaps.. overseen by the laughing dove on her branch in the harmattan dust, laughing at the human nature of it all

“here you come, searching for enlightenment, like some entitlement, refund or career”

I was so happy to know I had finished this song in time to take it with me on tour east to west coast this June.. a desert song to be debuted in the desert… a nightly offering of peace and solace in these violent, lopsided times for you

Last Saturday my sun, my sunbear and son, Percy died in my arms, only four and half years in this world.I’ve not the strength for any eulogy as of yet as the tragedy of the afternoon, a hit and run on a peaceful halcyon day still leaves me bewildered at a life without him.

But Percy came into my world at the very start of me taking my first steps back into my work and to you, on overwhelming mornings he would do everything within his power to get me out of bed and upright, he encouraged me to step into my stride again and so I know my familiar, urges me still to face and embrace all the work that lies ahead of me although I do feel I have lost one of the greatest reasons why. He is survived by his little brother Hieronymus, my little owl, who is showing me day by day the little clearings of light in this great shadow Percy leaves behind.

As much as this tour is of the nature of the beast… these nights will be full of the tender and gentle of the beast and plenty, like this moment of “on your side” captured by @milena.rud indeed crying the neck or the night safari never made it to many of these states yet too, so those songs will not be a stranger to you when you meet me there.

I don’t know where to start with posting about The Last Sheaf, a little like the Minack theatre event last year, the happening can only be explained in mere shards and fragments online, but I’ll start at the closing number of the second half, foreland, where a sigh of release came over me knowing I could in that moment send the album at the end of its year on parade, back into the sea it came from, where you can go dive for it whenever you’re needing

thank-you for the electricity you all conjured in a sold out union chapel, to those who travelled and gathered by the sea in Brighton for the night before, to @enginesorchestra for collaborating with me with an incredible quartet led by my first violinist for over two decades, Victoria Sutherland, to @brenjwc @sophie.u.crawford @charliestock @miriamwakeling + @frarustumji - such an honour to work and make with you

my deepest gratitude to you all who came and who support this work of mine, i am so blessed to have such a beautiful deep, wide and wonderful audience, new and old, after all these years and onward….
