A million thank yous to Juuso at @tornberg_guitars for lending me this amazing OM for the Island concert in Oulu ❤️❤️

Hi. Haven’t posted in a while because of an exquisitely busy summer— got off tour with Ichiko @ichikoaoba (2) and immediately fell into a whirlwind of arrangement and film scoring and a move across the country.
Some shows coming up— Oulu (Finland) and Freiburg (Germany).
Oulu concert #1 is orchestral, were playing “part 3” of Island. This will be the first time that the big-ass score (3) for these songs has been presented in the concert setting. I’m excited and terrified.
Oulu concert #2 is my new new solo set thing, new songs and sound design and so on. Prob my last solo show in a while, I’ve got a lot of film scoring and dog walking to do back at home.
Freiburg concert is “Island” complete with orchestra. We haven’t done it before but André de Ridder @andrederidder is persistent so we’re doing it. Who is gonna play Greg Fox’s amazing drum parts on “A Bloody Morning”? Andi Haberl @andi.haberl from The Notwist, that’s who. I’m a little nervous but André and Andi assure me we’re gonna kill it.

As always thank you @benivuula for the photo, we gotta do some more soon ❤️❤️

BRODIE BONUS PREMIERE: THE HIDDEN CAMERAS
We are very happy to present to you the bonus track “How Do You Love?” from our session with Canadian singer and songwriter The Hidden Cameras.
Over a pumping bassline, emotional piano chords and melancholic string arrangements (played and arranged by longterm musical partner-in-crime Owen Pallett), Joel Gibb (the mainstay of the Hidden Cameras) hits that sweet spot between euphoria and pain where the soul of disco sits.
Experience this live-version of “How Do You Love?” via link in Brodie Sessions’ bio.

Cold Specks @coldspecks 4th album “Light For The Midnight” was released yesterday grâce à @muterecords and @secretcityrecords
Half the album was produced by Adrian Utley (shout-out Ali Chant!) and the other half by Cold Specks herself. I recorded the strings for it in my bedroom. Shout-out Chantal K and Johnny Spence and everyone else who worked on it.
For months after I worked on this album, whenever people asked “hey what you been working on recently?” I’d usually play a rough mix of “How It Feels” off my phone and the room would go quiet and mouths would gape.
@coldspecks is one of the strongest and bravest and most resilient people I have had worked with and this project was a pleasure and an honour.
Richie Assaly at The Toronto Star wrote an in-depth profile/catch-up, shout out to Richie for knowing what’s up. Link is in my bio.
Enjoy this gorgeous album today ❤️❤️

In 2017, I played a show in a black box venue in Shibuya.Ichiko Aoba @ichikoaoba was booked as the support act, I had never heard her before. She came onstage and played a set without any pickups or effects, just her nylon string guitar with a couple of microphones set up.
The experience in watching her was revelatory.Every song she sang, it felt like I’d known the song my whole life. Her playing was virtuosic but understated, her singing pure and perfect. It was easily one of the most important concertgoing experiences of my life.
Over the past eight years, Ichiko’s star has risen, and deservedly so.Her early albums— stripped down solo recordings, all essential— have given way to broader, more ambitious productions. She is a genius in the true sense of the word.To be asked to share a stage with her is an enormous honour and I cannot express how much I look forward to these shows.

Canadian shows start TOMORROW. My days are dog-walking and string arranging, my evenings are basement rehearsals and TV binging. Are you excited to leave the house? I am!
Winnipeg is tomorrow, Calgary the day afterward, then Edmonton; Hamilton and Guelph and Toronto on the horizon. Fingers are activated and voice is strong, get ready for it :) :) :)

Almost five weeks on the road with hardly a day off, I am exhausted. Last night in Galway (pictured, with @wearevillagers and crew) was a career high for me: the local FOH was a mad genius who turned my volume up to the 110-120 dB range and it sounded earth shattering and wonderful.
Having made a grandiose proclamation earlier in the tour that “my pad thai recipe yielded the best pad thai you’d ever taste”, I attempted to make good on this claim, went to the supermarket, purchased ingredients and an electric hot plate and did a backstage pop up. (The reviews ranged from “this is the best pad thai I’ve ever tasted” to “well, it doesn’t suck” ❤️❤️❤️). All credit for this recipe goes to Vatcharin Bhumichitr, whose cookbooks have brightened my kitchen since my early 20s— just giving credit where credit is due!!
The night ended at @roisindubhpub with Gugai, greatest pub and the greatest man, it was a smash.
Enormous thanks to Villagers Conor and Kevin and Danny and the two Brendans, Villagers crew Thomas and Andy and Chris and Colin and Michael and the incomparable Lewy, thanks to my manager Wayne and my agent Peter and to all the promoters who hosted me, and thanks especially to everybody to came and listened, easily the warmest and kindest audiences, beyond all expectations ❤️

Tour has been fantastic.New set and new songs going down like a domino rally.I’m in that sleeper-coach induced vortex where it feels like time is standing still and my life depends on “finding a shower” and “ploughman’s sandwich”.
Just announced is a show on March 1 in Toronto, at St. Anne’s Parish, for Wavelength’s 25th anniversary Winter Festival.I’ll be sharing the stage with the best band to share a stage with: @ombiigizi . Other acts over the weekend include The OBGMs, pHoenix Pagliacci, Ducks LTD. controller.controller, and Mui Zyu from the UK.Lots more, too; check out the Wavelength website for the full schedule.
Hey Dublin! The first show at Olympia Theatre with @wearevillagers is (very nearly? or actually?) sold out; book your Monday night off and come see us play.Villagers have been casually destroying the minds and hearts of every crowd we’ve played with and you mustn’t miss it.I promise also to play with a particular ferocity.
Hey Canada!Reminding you (before this Instagram account becomes read-only over the holidays) that I’m playing big full sets in the new year.@mmmerival joining me for a couple dates in Ontario.I don’t have a new album, no, I want to road-test the new songs in the live setting before going into studio.Come through, you’ll like it.

Mainland Europe was trop bien, thanks everyone for listening. So many COVID-cancelled shows and I’m happy to have made the correction. Joining @wearevillagers tomorrow for a round of UK/Ireland dates.
It’s odd that I’ve never been able to pull in UK outside of London/Glasgow/Edinburgh (ticket wise), I assumed it was a gay thing or a violin thing (or a “your music is shit” thing). Noted that the same is true in other “big brother” countries (USA) but this does nothing but delight my middle child heart to succeed in the smaller domains
Extremely grateful to @wearevillagers to take me to cities I’d resolved were out of my reach, I love Leeds and Bristol and all the rest and am excited, for my own personal enjoyment, to be your guest in the coming weeks

Tour is going great so far. A delayed flight to Riga meant I had to play without a soundcheck. I slipped on the stairs at Concertgebouw, just as I was walking onstage, and skinned my elbows really badly. Every night, music-wise, has been pretty fantastic, though, especially Elbphilharmonie (pictured, photographed by @sebastian_husum ).
No more flights on this tour thank Christ, driving to Brugge tonight and then onward to France. First time playing France since Christophe passed away, excited and grateful to be back ❤️❤️
