The @buccibur E36 time attack car is tuned up and ready for final assembly just in time for @globaltimeattack at Thunderhill.

Definitely snuck up on the power level on this one and it could use some larger cams to use that boost efficiently but we were able to hit our target of 550whp.
Max power is the relatively easy part though.
The most time was spent tuning around the responsiveness of the turbo since it is a circuit racing car and record lap times are only possible if the driver can control the power delivery accurately. Lots of work on part throttle and transient ignition timing, intake and exhaust cam positions, DI injector timing, wastegate feed forward and PID, torque control overrun settings and antilag to keep the boost up and the throttle responsive without creating excessive heat or making it jumpy and hard to drive.
Couldn’t do it to this level without the advanced control of the @motec_global M142 and GPRP-DI Pro firmware.

Car is back from its annual development visit with @riley_rsmotorsport. It’s always enjoyable giving Riley a few guidelines and letting his creativity fill the gaps. The end result is consistently pure engineering artwork.

In this case, a fully bespoke turbo system with efficiency as the primary objective. The OE log-style cast exhaust manifold was replaced with a much more free-flowing, 3D printed Inconel tubular header. This new design positions the @garrettmotion G25-700 as low in the chassis as possible, providing a marginal CG advantage. The existing 3D printed Inconel fender-exit exhaust was retained, with a newly printed lower section grafted on to accommodate the upgraded turbo housing and lower placement.

On the intake side, a titanium charge pipe was fabricated to replace the previous, more complex setup. Removing the secondary heat exchanger in this section allowed for a shorter, straighter configuration. This provides a fractional CG improvement by moving weight aft. The system now relies on a single large @bellintercoolers water-to-air heat exchanger, sandwiched between 3D printed aluminum intake runners and a plenum featuring internal guide vanes to promote even air distribution. All sitting above a phenolic spacer to reduce heat transfer.

The previous port injection setup, which was located beneath the intake manifold, is now integrated directly into the intake runners for a more precise and direct spray pattern. This is supported by a custom-machined fuel rail.

POV: Fastest overall lap for @globaltimeattack Finals 2025 - 1st in class - Limited RWD record.

This was the warm up lap from Sunday morning. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to complete my hawt lap that followed due to issues on track. I see a lot of things I would like to change, but it’s the only clean lap I got. So, the best I can do is learn from it and come back better next year.

The car setup has made tremendous progress over the past couple events and I am just starting to comprehend how capable this iteration of the car is. Every single lap is helping me grasp the concept of driving this version of the car faster and I am dedicated to extract more out of it.

We had been chasing a stronger front end the last few events and finally got the chassis more neutral - Only to lose a good portion of that progress when replacing the diff that blew up in practice late Friday afternoon. @jerickjavier21 was kind enough to let me borrow the same 3.73 out of his street car but the LSD and it’s ramping being much less aggressive, didn’t provide the locking needed to rotate the rear of the car. Thankfully @warhammermotorsport didn’t mind the midnight wrenching and had us back in the game for first session Saturday.

Anyway… Finals are behind us. On to the next event. Let’s go faster.
