The year was 1981 , before the crack epidemic. Sugar Hill gang’s Rappers delight and Micheal Jackson “Rock with you” was in major rotation on your 1580 Kday’s AM dial. All the kids in the Jungles (Baldwin hills) August st , came out to see the bigger than life child sweetheart @kimfieldsofficial who at the time was one of the hottest TV stars in the country (Facts of Life) Popped up for a meet n greet that had the neighborhood scrambling to get a autographed picture. These impromptu pop up’s with stars of that time were always common and orchestrated by the neighborhood Ice cream truck owner/ photographer Delroi “Candyman” Whitaker @whitakerimages who frequently brought everyone from Todd Bridges to Gary Coleman whom all lived overtop the Jungles, Baldwin Hills dubbed The Black Beverly Hills. This was our upbringing! LA’s Westside , where community activists ,(RIP T. Rodgers BPSN, One arm Muhammad 🕊️ect) musicians, actors , dreamers and the working class lived. And who amongst the crowd of dreamers? Young Ornette and Eddie Hayes AKA @aceyalone AceDaUno! 4808-4911 A

The tips we made paid for the zoom zoom and whams whams (candy, soda pop ect) from the Candyman. I.E black dollars recycled. #Innercitygriots
