A new find. Made by an Eleanor Kuehn in 1951. About 7” x7”

☘️It’s pure coincidence that’s I’m posting this on the anniversary but maybe a year ago I think I solved a mystery I’ve carried since I was eleven or twelve. My favorite Uncle Richie showed up one day with a hand painted Simpsons animation cel. This is when the Simpsons was everything and to be able to look at the back and see all the layers of paint was a core memory. We knew it wasn’t a scene from the show but we couldn’t figure out what it could be. He just said he got it from a guy at work.That could mean anything. When you asked what he did the answer was vaguely an investigator for Bergen County. My mom never even really got many details beyond that. But he was fun being a kind of enigma. He was a dinner guest at the first Bush White House. He was on a panel of talking heads interviewed by Katie Couric on the Today Show.Why exactly? Unclear. But every once in a while he wouldcause a bit of familial excitement.He had a Bill Murray story way before Bill Murray stories were a thing. Anyways about a year ago I was watching this Vice TV documentary about the Simpsons and during a dump of imagery there was a TV Guide cover with my hand painted cel! Turns out it was the March 17, 1990 issue. The first of many times the Simpsons would appear on its covers. I tracked down a copy so I could check the masthead for an artist credit or anymore info.The credit was only Twentieth Century Fox. But I mean this has got to be the painting used for the cover, right? My Uncle Richie passed away in January but this object he got for me has been so important to me for most of my life and his enigma will live on. ☘️

Haven’t posted one of these or much of anything in years. This is Henchman #4 from a series I was doing back in 2022 when drawing campy masked death squad goons felt kind of cathartic. I really struggled through 2025. I cannot believe we are in this again. Fuck these murdering clowns, their enablers, and those who voted for this. No rest for the wicked.

I first met Rich Jacobs when he came to do a show and tell for a class @jordinisip was teaching at RISD.He unloaded tote bags of zines and drawings and records and just blew my mind that day. Seeing firsthand stuff from Barry, Margaret, and Chris for the first time.We’d stay in touch.I remember finding a zine he made at Other Music and writing him to tell him about it.Rich was analog instagram. I don’t mean that as a slur.So generous with his time and sharing what he loved. Mr. Positivity! He’d invite me into so many shows and did so for like everyone. Everyone everyone. He was always drawing. Somehow he put this project together with Virgin Records like 20 years ago and he, Jordin, @e_whitey , and I got this photo with Richard Branson that we’d always joke about.Rich busted my chops for at least a decade saying I only ate chicken fingers. He was my portal to Jason Polan. 🫶 My life would be so different if we’d never met to the point that I can’t picture it. Jam on, Rich. ✌️💔

MEPAINTSME is pleased to present the group exhibition, MPM / IRL (mepaintsme in real life), on view at our temporary gallery space in New York’s Lower East Side. The exhibition assembles a dispersed network of artists, whose relationships with the artist/curator have largely developed online, into a shared physical space. The show will feature over fifty contemporary artists, as well as works by 20th-century artists on loan from private collections.

MPM / IRL is on view from July 11 - July 27, 2025. The gallery is located at 48 Hester Street in the Lower East Side, New York City. Hours are Tuesday - Saturday, 11 AM - 6 PM and by appointment. The Way I See It: Selections from the KAWS Collection opens this Wednesday night at @drawingcenter .I’ve had the privilege of preparing the works for this show all summer and its really an incredible grouping of almost 400 drawings, works on paper, and some surprises.I’m honored to have two works of mine included in this dream roster.The show runs through January 19, 2025 so make sure you come see it.
