CAMERAMAN (2025) written and directed by @arsalanmotavali

“In the late 90s, a newly immigrated cameraman desperate to restart his career must decide whether to risk his family’s savings on a stranger’s offer.”

To create the right mood for the film we took inspiration from Iranian and European cinema of that time period, framing with a 1.66:1 aspect ratio. The lighting is naturalistic with a heightened palette for night. I managed to convince our wonderful designer @ranafadavi to do a double treatment on the windows with both blinds and curtains, and I love the final result.

We had hoped to shoot on film, but with a tight budget we ended up testing various digital cameras and lenses with added film emulation, and found that the Sony Venice with Cooke Speed Panchros gave us that slightly vintage feel with the right skin tones. For the camcorder scene we used the PD150.

The film has had a great start to its festival run, premiering at @hollyshorts to go on to screen at @britishfilminstitute London Film Festival and @boltonfilmfest – more exciting festival news to be announced soon…

“In the late 90s, a newly immigrated cameraman desperate to restart his career must decide whether to risk his family’s savings on a stranger’s offer.”

To create the right mood for the film we took inspiration from Iranian and European cinema of that time period, framing with a 1.66:1 aspect ratio. The lighting is naturalistic with a heightened palette for night. I managed to convince our wonderful designer @ranafadavi to do a double treatment on the windows with both blinds and curtains, and I love the final result.

We had hoped to shoot on film, but with a tight budget we ended up testing various digital cameras and lenses with added film emulation, and found that the Sony Venice with Cooke Speed Panchros gave us that slightly vintage feel with the right skin tones. For the camcorder scene we used the PD150.
