One artwork. Two sides. Ever-changing light.
Katharina Grosse’s “Ein Glas Wasser, bitte” [“A Glass of Water, Please”] extends beyond a single viewpoint.
From each side, the large glass wall inside @museumreinhardernst’s foyer reveals itself differently – shifting according to light, angle, and position.
Combining transparency and layering, what is complex on canvas becomes intuitive in glass.
With the assistance of Derix Glasstudios, the world-renowned artist has created a unique spatial experience.
Visit @derix.glasstudios to learn more about the intricate manufacturing process and hear Katharina Grosse speak about her experience working in glass.
The full film goes online at www.derix.com on August 15.

Glass, light, reflection – and a red sports car in the forest.
With “The Ladybird, the Innocence and the Cars”, artist Karl-Martin Hartmann created a poetic landscape of glass and contrast within the foyer of Wiesbaden’s @museumreinhardernst.
Delicate glass panels flow through two levels like curtains, offering glimpses of a hidden forest – bright green leaves on the floor, surrounded by towering dark trees, and at its center: a glowing red Ferrari.
What story lies behind this unusual scene? And what inspired the artist to juxtapose nature, transience, and machinery? Discover the artwork and its story in the film – premiering August 15 on Derix Glasstudios’ website. ▶️ Save the date!

Luminosity. Depth. Movement.
With “Wandering Thoughts”, street art artist Claudia Walde, aka @mad_c1, brings her signature language of vibrant color, energy, and layered expression to glass for the very first time.
The five-part installation at @museumreinhardernst in Wiesbaden is more than just a visual experience – it’s a dialogue of light and space, created in close collaboration with Derix Glasstudios.
How did this work come to life, and what challenges did MadC encounter?

A six-foot diameter (183 cm) stained-glass rose window to enhance the worship space for Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus, Ohio. Inspired by the church's stone exterior and traditional Gothic tracery, this design conveys an image of the Holy Trinity in a trefoil-shaped swirl of thin rays of light. The Three-in-One imagery arose from Biblical descriptions of arrows of light in Habakkuk, with a sky-filled light show illumining the dark depths of the sea in Job. The congregation embraced this imagery as both cosmic and embryonic. God, the Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer of all things, whose ongoing acts of grace continue to unfold in our lives.

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit."
- Aristotle
I could spend hours in the workshop watching our artisans work. Their attention to detail, their focus and the passion with which they perform their craft is mesmerizing.
Unfortunately, I too have to work, but whenever I get the chance, I pause and watch:
This is Roland cutting glass for another project. Next time, I'll share it with sound, which is even better (too much background noise this time).

As our team is returning to work, I look forward to sharing new and exciting projects in the weeks ahead #staytuned
Do you have plans and ideas for 2025 yet? If so, I'd love to hear them.

Hello 2025!
Is it too late to wish all of you glass and art enthusiasts a Happy New Year? 😊 The studio is back from its annual leave, and I’m here to provide your regular dose of glass magic! Let’s kick things off with a little throwback to one of my all-time favorites—and maybe, just maybe, a place I wouldn’t mind escaping to right now. (Because, honestly, all we’ve got here is rain instead of snow and sunshine ☔️❄️.)
Back in 2005, we had the honor of collaborating with artist Raphael Seitz at a truly special location: the Licht-Klause in Deutschfeistritz, Austria. This place, steeped in Christian spirituality, became the canvas for Raphael Seitz’s visionary design. He created a holistic concept for the space, which included all the windows and a unique glass ceiling that amplifies the room’s one-of-a-kind atmosphere.
The result? A beautiful harmony of clear shapes, interplay between different levels of transparency, and carefully placed accents of color—all coming together to make this space truly extraordinary.

🎄 It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! 🎄
As you can see, Klara and I are fully immersed in the Christmas spirit and eagerly looking forward to the holidays. This will be our final post of 2024 as the studio is closing its doors today for our annual holiday break.
We’ll be back on January 13th, but with a small change: Klara has successfully completed her studies and will be leaving us to embark on exciting new adventures. 💫 From now on, I’ll be the one running this account solo.
Klara, thank you so much for your incredible contributions over the past three years! You’ll be deeply missed, but I wish you all the best as you take on new challenges and opportunities.
To all you glass lovers out there: Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎅✨ I can’t wait to reconnect with you in 2025 and hope you’ll continue following my journey with Derix Glasstudios in the vibrant world of colorful light.

What an "artventure" it was!
In 2022, over the course of two months, our painters dedicated themselves to the creation of 35 enormous glass panes for artist Ulrich Bernhardt’s newest project: For the new Laboratory building, LPME of TU Kaiserslautern, he designed a stunning glass façade spanning approximately 170 square meters.
Combining vibrant float glass painting with digital prints and reflective elements, the glass not only transforms the building’s interior by casting colorful shadows on floors, walls, and stairs but also creates a dynamic play of reflections outside—interacting with sunlight and passersby.
We hope this mesmerizing artwork becomes a source of inspiration for students, teaching professionals, and staff alike. A big thank you to Ulrich Bernhardt for his trust and for such a successful collaboration!

German winters aren't exactly famous for being bright and sunny.😅
We’ll be honest: these past days, we’ve been feeling the lack of light as the grey, dull skies take over.
Thankfully, working at Derix means we’re constantly surrounded by vibrant colors. 🥰 The beautiful artworks we get to create bring luminous highlights and a unique atmosphere to our workshop.
And after work? The Christmas markets are calling! 😉 Do you enjoy a festive stroll through the market, or do you prefer a visit to the museum immersing yourself in luminous art?
