Ane Christensen Metalwork
Artist & maker, contemporary objects in metal

Following an extraordinary response from over 500 practitioners championing contemporary craft in the UK, we are delighted to announce that the Scottish sculptor Oliver Spendley (@oliver.spendley) is the winner of the inaugural House & Garden Craft Prize.
In their deliberation, the jury noted that Oliver’s charred larch and Lewisian gneiss rock piece, Otherlands 04 (2025), feels like ‘something that transcends the quotidian, sitting somewhere between sculpture and design, and becoming a site to contemplate our place in the world.’
In recognition of the exceptional calibre of work across our 16 finalists, three special mentions have also been awarded to Andrea Spencer (@aspencerglass), for Fair Maid’s Demise (2024), Ane Christensen (@ane.c), for Fading Vessel (2026), and Tessa Silva (@tessasilva), for Smock Lounge Chair (2026). We can’t wait to see what new heights these extraordinary talents will scale next.
The House & Garden Craft Prize is proudly supported by fellow craft pioneers Mulberry (@mulberryengland), with strategic partners Sotheby’s (@sothebys) and the Crafts Council (@craftscouncil).
A huge thank you to our judges, @tf_chan, @julia_fischel_art, @keithbrymerjones and @interiorseditor, editor, House & Garden
The finalists’ exhibition is free to visit at Sotheby’s, 11-17 May during London Craft Week (@londoncraftweek). Visit the link in bio to find out more.

House & Garden recently announced the finalists for the 2026 Craft Prize, recognising UK-based makers who are reimagining inherited traditions and techniques. Chosen from over 500 submission, these 16 pieces offer a snapshot of the country’s thriving contemporary craft landscape.
Huge congratulations to metalsmith and Fair maker Ane Christensen (@ane.c) who was chosen as a finalist for her ‘Fading Vessel’ piece, made from around 150 patinated brass rods. All of Ane’s work begins with the simple geometry of cylinders, bowl forms and a flat sheet. She often works with metal rods and wire which are used like three-dimensional line drawings to frame, space and disrupt the density of her material.
Discover the works at the 2026 House & Garden Craft Prize Finalist’s Exhibition, taking place during London Craft Week. The exhibition is free and will be held at @sothebys New Bond Street flagship from 11-17 May (open 10am-5pm). Head to @londoncraftweek to learn more.

As part of a very exciting @londoncraftweek, I am really looking forward to show work alongside artist working in wood @ollyfathers in the pop-up exhibition ‘Material Difference’. It is the first time our work is shown together and while there is contrast in our material, approach and techniques, we share a language of lines and the framing of space.
The show is beautifully curated by Anna Garner @thegarnered and sits alongside the South Korean Fine Craft Gallery @solunacraft
exhibition ‘Original of Materials’ which include my favourite Korean artists -

Jeong, 정 is a Korean concept that has no simple translation. It is more of an emotion, a feeling - the notion of a connection between people, artists and their practice, makers and their material - a quiet love that builds over time.
I am delighted to be hosting a talk with the leading fine craft gallery in South Korea @solunacraft as part of @londoncraftweek to explore this notion. New Series: Carpenters Journal
Tamara Platisa, Head of Jewellery, speaks with Carpenters Workshop Jewellery artists about their personal collections and how jewellery embodies shared histories and individual narratives, ultimately shaping their creative practice.
For the first artist in the series, Ane Christensen, jewellery holds a deep personal significance. Her early training in jewellery design has remained a constant influence throughout her 25-year career. She approaches her work through the lens of scale, believing that the same design principles can be applied whether creating a brooch or ring, or working on a sculpture or wall piece.

Ane Christensen grew up in Denmark, but has been
settled in London since 1993. She set up her practice
after graduating from the Royal College of Art.
In Ane’s ‘Fading Vessel’ series she explores the Danish sky, its majestic light and starscape, all captured in the stillness and poetic nature of her expertly crafted metalwork. A sister piece to the one we have in our East - West exhibition at @mo_mayfair was acquired by the @vamuseum whilst on show @collectartfair last month. If you would like to enquire about acquiring the one we have on show here please message us.
Her metalwork explores the boundaries
between functionality and sculptural form. Most of
her work is the result of applying a strict set of rules
through out her design and work process. She finds
inspiration in the restrictive work process itself and
the challenge to stretch its limitations. The starting
point for all her pieces is the simple geometry of sheet
metal and spun forms, which she deconstructs using
techniques such as piercing, soldering and hand-
forming.
She works in a range of different metals such as
sterling silver, 18 karat gold, stainless steel, mild steel,
aluminium, copper and brass, as well as a range of
subjects and scales. Her recent works are a move
towards a more abstract expression. Without strictly
following her previous ‘set of rules’, they continue the
exploration of negative space, optical illusion and
deconstruction. She draws her inspiration from both
the urban landscape and line drawings.

With a small delay, I am delighted to announce that my new Fading Vessel has been acquired by the Victoria & Albert Museum for their permanent collection. Thank you @vamuseum @becky_knott_for your incredible support of contemporary makers.

A tiny bit of posing last night at the PV of the ‘Persistence of Form’ exhibition @carpentersworkshopjewellery @carpentersworkshopgallery.
Thank you for a beautiful show!

The Clarus Collective has visited @carpentersworkshopgallery. The official exhibition is opening on the 12th of March.
Komorebi by @aplusacooren is featuring serene and dreamlike lighting pieces that evoke a harmonious connection with the natural world. The works belong to the designers’ Ishigaki collection - a series of lamps inspired by memories of freediving off the coast of Ishigaki Island in southern Japan.
Also there is Persistence of Form, an exhibition exploring the dialogue between jewellery and functional art through a shared language of composition and form. Bringing together female perspectives from the gallery’s roster, the exhibition highlights practices that move fluidly between functional art and jewellery, showing how jewellery can become a natural extension of an artist’s creative practice.
You can also enjoy refined Italian dining at @pollini_ladbrokehall. The dining space reflects architect Vincenzo De Cotiis’s architectural framework, which respects the building’s original 1903 Beaux-Arts structure while introducing a contemporary sensibility.
