The Local Type have been busy over the last couple of months discovering more historic typography in new locations and turning them into beautiful screenprints, on stunning stock by @gfsmithpapers and @gmundpaper

We’ll be selling these and much more at the @stbridefoundation Wayzgoose this Sunday 10 May from 11-4.

If you’re the local type and are in the area, come and say hello, and pick up a print or two!

There may even be the odd historical story to share, uncovered through the letters we’ve found and the people we’ve met along the way.

The Local Type spent a marvellous couple of days delivering #woodtype workshops to over 100 @colchesterroyalgrammarschool Year 7 students. Teaching them about the wonders of type, print and paper. As you can see ☝️ the enthusiasm and creativity on show was mind blowing 🤯

We even squeezed in a brief history of #colchester

They’re currently working on a @barbarakruger45 project and we hope we inspired them to think about type and image in a different way 🧠

We used lots of beautiful woodtype from our Pawsey collection. More on that soon 👀

A BRIEF HISTORY OF TYPE: IPSWICH (Exhibition).

Ipswich has a rich history as one of England’s oldest settlements, dating back to the Anglo-Saxon times of the 7th Century. Since then, it has continually evolved to become the town we see today. This has left behind many visual relics and clues that can lead us to stories of bygone eras. This exhibition celebrates Ipswich’s unique heritage through historic, found typography.

Working in groups, and in collaboration with The Local Type, the University of Suffolk’s graphic design students from Years 1, 2, & 3, have discovered an A-Z of Ipswich, researched 26 stories, then designed and screen-printed 26 posters. Each highlighting a piece of history about the area.

Thanks to Billy (@bf.associates @uos_alumni) and Robbie (@robbiesteer) from @the_localtypewho are the inspiration and facilitators of this project, which accumulated into this exhibition.

The project is generously sponsored by @gfsmithpapers, who supplied beautiful papers, perfect for screen printing. The work looks great screen printed onto these beautiful papers.
Thanks also to @suffolkarchives, who gave access to the archive, which expanded research skills into the depth of their collections. We are lucky to have The Hold, home to The Suffolk Archives, as part of the campus of @uniofsuffolk
