What began as an idea, and a belief that contemporary art could feel more welcoming, connected, and alive in Buffalo, became this.

In February, we opened the doors to TENfold Gallery for the very first time and watched hundreds of people fill the space with conversation, curiosity, music, laughter, and community. This beautiful film by Eman Wajed, created in collaboration with Nate Perracini, captured that energy so perfectly and reminds us why we started all of this in the first place.

This Saturday, we invite you back to celebrate the next chapter with us.

Join us for an evening celebrating MONUMENT & MEMORY, the premiere of a new film created about the exhibition and project, and the launch of The Raft Residency, an artist residency and artist book program created in honor of Elisabeth Samuels and built to support artists with time, resources, collaboration, and encouragement to create ambitious new work.

The evening will include:
• A screening and conversation connected to MONUMENT & MEMORY
• The launch of our first residency artist book with DJ Carr and Mirabo Press
• An opportunity to support future artists through The Raft Residency Fund
• Exhibition viewing, refreshments, and community

Early studies done at @321residence in Buffalo.

Continuing to explore dance and geometric abstraction I combine several artistic genres spanning perhaps millennia to the present.

At first glance you can see the impact Cubism and Futurism holds on me, that has been clear most of my artistic career but reading between the lines there is a lot more to these works and the subject it represents.

First it is a dancer, then its a mathematical solution that requires an understanding of geometry, relationships between space and planes, then theres is intention- the dancers moving in and out of 3d space, following that is velocity, even if it is a still like the second frame where clarity and structure hold.

The other part of this is the work is built into childhood not as play but as discovery, geometry is our first art form its how the world informs us. It is at its core indigenous marking and symbol making.

Another unknown part of this work is music, it is made with music and informed by music as well, even becoming staff notations dancing across a musical score.

Lastly these lines, forms largely derive from my experience of being close friends and collaborating with dancers like the Rock Steady Crew and the global Breaking community.

Additionally my painting trains as a kid through the mid 70s-80s, this is muscle memory from those lines, those structures.
