Ever thought about promoting yourself... locally? 🏘️🏙️🏔️🏝️

There are several local-oriented tactics you can use that might be more rewarding in the long term than immediately targeting the entire world. Consider:

📻 Send your music to local radio stations. Smaller stations might be easier to get a feature on and might give you a spot if you pitch yourself as a rising local artist, simply out of local pride and solidarity.

📰 Pitch to local blogs and newspapers. Send your EPKs or hot news to local publications, or try to arrange an interview with a smaller magazine. They might need the content, especially if it brings a fresh, local perspective. Think of an interesting angle before pitching.

🎤 Go for smaller gigs. These are great for rehearsing for bigger ones and are easier to arrange. Reach out to local pubs, galleries, festivals, or other venues that could host a small concert and fit your style of music.

📢 Target local ads. Experiment with promoting your music locally using targeted ads with text aimed at local audiences. You might find it works for your kind of music or is a great complement to broader targeting.

🎧 Research and mention local editorials in your Spotify for Artists pitch. If you find local playlists that fit your music, mention why you think your song would be a good match – the chances of getting on a smaller, local playlist are much, MUCH higher than a huge global one.

P.S. All these local features, concerts, and successes can then be used in your EPKs or editorial pitches 💡 Spotify editors, in particular, want to hear about you creating some buzz. So, information like "featured on Radio X with my last song," "part of this and that festival next month," or "featured in multiple local newspapers" can actually help you a lot, as songs from rising artists are featured more often.

🐝 Happy World Bee Day 💛

Tiny creatures, massive impact. Honestly… kind of like independent artists sometimes 😉

Today feels like a good excuse to appreciate the things quietly keeping the world alive and interesting – whether that’s bees pollinating flowers or musicians filling our playlists with songs we’d hate to live without.

Got a bee-inspired song? A buzzing synth line? A track with honey in the title? Drop it below 🐝🎧

Can you imagine an outlet that seems to accept everything? 🤔 At first glance, it might feel good to get a “yes” – but when every song is a yes, it stops meaning much.

Why? Well, #curation is about… choice. Taste. Personality. When everything gets featured, the outlet becomes less focused, and its audience can tell. Just imagine it – would you listen to a playlist with all kinds of genres and production qualities? A rap song followed by lofi rock, then some operatic metal and a pop bop… it’d end up feeling like a mess.

The results? Engagement drops. Trust fades. And that’s why, on SubmitHub, we don’t keep curators who approve just to approve (maybe in hopes of getting more submissions) – it defeats the whole point of sharing music with a particular audience and intention.

That said, we do make space for curators who refund when they say no. Those folks are upfront and selective – they just choose to handle declines differently. You’ll see a note on their profile if that’s the case.

Not sure whether to go with Honest or Gentle feedback when submitting your song? 🤯 It’s a tough call – Honest feedback can feel brutal at times, especially when you've poured so much into the track. On the other hand, Gentle feedback often ends up being more general – a simpler yes or no, with less depth 💭

That’s why we often lean toward recommending the Honest option 🙌 It makes our curators pause and dig a bit deeper, and point out specific strengths or concerns. In some cases, that extra layer of thought leads to a better chance of approval – not only (but also) thanks to the fact that Honest feedback lets you include an Optional request/note. This means you can steer the focus – maybe ask about your mix, lyrics, vibe, or just call out a part of the song you’re proud of 🎯

Nobody will 'make you' pick out the Honest route, of course 💡 Just an FYI that almost always, it's the more effective one, and it makes the curators more engaged.

Have you ever noticed this checkbox during your song upload or submission process? It’s small, but it might matter – for your information and your well-being 😊 When it’s checked, you’ll get an email for every single feedback (including each decline), in real time. That might be helpful – or not, especially if declines tend to bring you down or you’d rather not read them.

In that case, unchecking the box means you’ll only get one recap email every 24 hours – less inbox overload, and an easier way to skim through curator feedback. (Declines start with a red bullet point, so they’re easy to spot – and skip if you want to) 🙌

Ever tried Reddit for your music? 👀

Everyone talks about social media – posting, engaging, building your brand – and it's, of course, true. But what if you're missing out on one of the best spaces for real music discussions, networking, and feedback? A kind of a "different social media", enter #Reddit 🎈

It’s not just for memes and deep dives into random topics (though, it's about those as well 😉). Musicians getting their music out there are using subreddits to get help, share tracks, get honest feedback, connect with potential fans or collaborators, and even, occasionally, land playlist placements. Whether you’re promoting a new release or just want to talk shop with other artists, there might be a space for you. Just be natural, try to engage with others, and read each subreddit's rules 🤗

Already using it? Awesome. If not, maybe it’s time to give it a shot 🚀

If you asked what’s the best and actually cheapest (per stream) way to give a (solid) song that initial boost around release, we’d say: curator pitching = playlisting with some blog features 🎧✍️ This is especially true for artists who aren’t big yet or are just starting out.

But if you asked which promotion channel is best for intentional listening, saves, and follows, the answer is: (Meta) ADS 🎯

And yes, #ads can be expensive, especially at the start. They get cheaper and perform better over weeks/months in (with optimizations). And if your song is in a competitive genre or isn’t an instant crowd-pleaser, it won’t be cheap at all (though it will improve with time). But when someone sees an ad, clicks through, and lands on your song, playlist, or profile, they already have intent – meaning higher chances of multiple streams, saves, and even a follow.

So which path is better? The answer is: Both. And more. 🔥 Starting with playlisting and blog campaigns, mixing in social media presence, reminders, ads (for your song/album, and also your own playlist with it), live gigs, music video (+ its promo), and whatever else comes naturally to you as an artist creates, TOGETHER, a landslide effect 🌊 The impact builds exponentially and doesn’t just disappear after a month – it creates momentum that keeps working for you long term.

Want to really push your music out in a sustainable way? Stack your strategies, don’t rely on just one 🚀

Wondering if your genre gets love on SubmitHub? 🤔💔

Good (and bad) news: it's not always about the genre – sometimes it's all about the vibe and how polished your track is. It's competitive out there, so make sure to have your song on a solid level, qualitatively. But yes, if you’re making something super niche, you might need a bit more patience (and be a bit more frustrated while getting there) 🙌

If you do want to see how your genre stacks up, though, head over to our Genre Analytics part to check out how many artists are submitting, how many get accepted, how much of the song is usually heard, and more 📊👉 submithub.com/genre-analytics

Happy exploring! 🔎

We know SubmitHub isn’t the only way to get your music out there. Every artist has a different path, and what works for one person might not work for another. So no, we’ll never say you should depend only on SubmitHub for playlisting or promotion 💡

At the same time, we pride ourselves on vetting our playlisters more than thoroughly, but we know it's unfortunately not the same case with other companies or playlists that are just out there. So, if you’re thinking of pitching to a playlist you’re not familiar with (and it's not on SubmitHub, meaning it hasn’t been reviewed as closely), whether through IG messages or on another submission platform, it’s always worth taking a closer look before you try to get your music on it.

And that's where our Playlist Checker (submithub.com/playlist-checker) comes in. You can use it to check out millions of Spotify playlists – yes, those that aren’t on SubmitHub *especially* 🔎 It helps you see if a playlist is growing naturally (big spikes are almost always a bad sign), what genres it focuses on, and previews to see whether there are any warning signs you should know about (e.g., a very wild genre mix like rap + death metal + dance pop) won't help your song's algorithms). We think this is actually REALLY important, and thus made the checker completely free to use.

And it's not just for checking, either 😉 You can make use of the Similar Playlists button to find other playlists, on and off SubmitHub, with a similar vibe. AND if you ever run into a playlist on SubmitHub that doesn't feel right, please, report it 🚨 Helping flag those you had a bad experience (payola, bots) with keeps everyone, in the end, safer.

If there’s one thing that makes a huge difference on SubmitHub, it’s treating curators like REAL people ✉️💬

Instead of sending cold, copy-paste pitches (or none at all), take a moment to be #thoughtful. Curators notice when you actually listen to their playlists or read their blog – and it makes your submission stand out that much more. A quick personal note, a comment on why your song fits, or even a simple thank you can open doors.

💡 Bonus tip: If someone supports your music, support them back. Share the feature, follow their playlist, and/or leave a kind review. These small actions build real connections that can lead to more opportunities down the line.

Bottom line? Be genuine, be kind, be human. It’s that simple – and it (very often) works.

Yes, our design prioritizes practicality and data. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s okay. We’re all about keeping things functional and purposeful over chasing flashy aesthetics. That’s the approach we believe in – and we hope you can see why!
