Smooth Technology is a creative engineering studio that builds immersive and interactive experiences. 

We believe that an experience can become transformative when concept, technology, and execution are designed together from the start. We design for the practical world. Clients don’t come to us with finished solutions. They come with goals, constraints, or problems that need both imagination and technical clarity. For this reason, our team spans the full stack— from cloud architecture to the physical layer that people touch and respond to.

Thinking much more about sound these days after this inaugural project opened in Dublin. We were interested in the architectural spaces of large pipe organs and wanted to create an interactive room filled with pillars that were each associated with a sound. The haptic feedback was very satisfying and we are excited to explore this further in future work.

Armed with LED bows and foam ball "arrows," teams competed and were tracked on a daily leaderboard. Long Wave is officially deinstalled after 3 months in the park. Huge thanks to @rogerwilliamspark for giving us the opportunity to make this monumental work. At 200ft long by 30ft tall, it is by far the largest piece we have ever made and we learned a lot in the process.

It will be getting a bit of an extension before making a trip to Scotsdale, AZ, where it will be shown over a canal for 10 days. Stay tuned for more.

Recently finished up a giant interactive slime mold for @sloomooinstitute .

Made in collaboration with @smooth.technology , this project was a culmination of a lot of techniques that we have been honing in our own work with embedded led systems and pneumatics. We developed pressure sensitive drop stitch pads which visitors can jump on to trigger custom graph based animations along the branching led array.

The geometry and patterning was also a huge development for our automated patterning and labeling systems. Every single panel within the network is unique and tapers in diameter toward the top. All pieces are hot air welded and powered by a small fish pump.

It’s always fun when client work can help hone and condense techniques that we are excited to continue pushing forward in our own practice.

Recently finished up a giant interactive slime mold for @sloomooinstitute .

Made in collaboration with @smooth.technology , this project was a culmination of a lot of techniques that we have been honing in our own work with embedded led systems and pneumatics. We developed pressure sensitive drop stitch pads which visitors can jump on to trigger custom graph based animations along the branching led array.

The geometry and patterning was also a huge development for our automated patterning and labeling systems. Every single panel within the network is unique and tapers in diameter toward the top. All pieces are hot air welded and powered by a small fish pump.

Still reeling from the energy, creativity, and collaboration at yesterday’s @segddesign Xlab Studio Sessions at TAD!

Over 110 participants came together to build fictional theme parks in 3 hours. The energy, the creativity, the teamwork? Unreal.

Our office space turned into a full-blown creative playground—ideas flying, screens glowing, merch emerging, music blasting. And somehow… it all came together.
