Onur Tukel
Filmmaker, artist

If you're free Tuesday, May 26th join us for a special salon at @pinkyswearnyc. There will be 8-10 five-minute plays plus songs and stand-up and we'll all hang out after by the fire and sip cocktails. 7:30-9:30pm. Hope to see you there!

@theblockreal was one of the first artists I collaborated with when I moved to NYC 15 years ago. I now consider him a dear friend. We've done music videos and movies and salons and had our share of laughs and fights but the one thing I KNOW for a fact is that he's a BRILLIANT singer/songwriter. I love all his records but I think his new album LOVE CRASH is easily his best. I know what inspired this material and all I can say is that for some artists, a broken heart can lead to wonderful things. Don't just listen to the music, listen to the lyrics. The writing is incredible.

@theblakemorgan (and The Essentials) puts on a great live show. I've seen him play several times now and it's always a good time. He's had a monthly residence at The Bitter End for the last few months and it's been fun watching him perform. His stage performance seems effortless but I know a lot of work/rehearsal goes into it. It's rocking but smooth. I very much dig it. Catch his last show at The Bitter End Thursday, May 21, 7pm.

Very proud of my friend @kristinaklebe for writing and directing (and starring in) her first feature film NOXTURNE. Making movies is fucking HARD and I love what Klebe has done here. It's a bit hard to describe, a psychosexual drama mixed with body horror? Maybe, Last Tango in Paris meets The Diving Bell And The Butterfly? Misery meets The Pianist? It's unique, thoughtful and confident, bursting with great visuals and ideas (and performances) and if you go to the premiere on Thursday, May 14th, 5pm, you'll see what a force she is. Her performance alone is worth the ticket price. Village East Cinema (181-189 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10003). Klebe will be doing a Q&A and will be celebrating with drinks after!

If you're free Thursday, April 30th, come hang out at Pinky Swear (171A Chrystie Street). We're going to have a short salon (7:15pm-8:45pm) with music and other stuff then going to sit around the fire and get silly. Hope to see you!

Josh Heap's first feature is a fun, weird, delightfully lofi horror movie, with a sense of humor, the best kind. It's been popping up in theaters all over the country the last few weeks and comes out today on digital. Brought to you by the lunatics at Factory 25, which tends to embrace outcast cinema like this. Thank God Matt Grady has bad taste. CITY WIDE FEVER. Beware, it might be the last horror film you ever watch!

The fine folks over at Cosmic Lion Productions asked me to contribute an autobiographical comic to their NYC anthology REAL LIFE COMIX: ONLY IN NEW YORK. There are some amazing writers and artists featured in this beautiful 216 page hard cover. I'm honored to be included. They've started a Kickstarter to get over the finish line. If you like NY stories and/or comics, you should get a copy! https://tinyurl.com/3m8fk62t

Hubert Davis is a fucking legend for this glorious, beautiful fact alone! The greatest Tar Heels game I've ever watched! He's the MAN! Maybe not this year, but you know, a little bad luck doesn't help! Davis, you're the man!

If you're free tomorrow (Friday, March 13th), I'll be moderating the Q&A for a thrilling, vertiginous documentary called SPACE COWBOY. 6:40pm show @ifccenter. The subject Joe Jennings and director Marah Strauch will be there. It's one thing to jump out of an airplane, but to do it like THIS? Absolutely fearless. I can barely look over the edge of a balcony. On Saturday, the Q&A will be moderated by the great @michael_nathanson who radiates in everything I see him in. Come see it. It's very charming and "down-to-earth!" :)

Hey NYC book and film lovers. If you're free tomorrow (Thursday, March 12th), I recommend this event at IFC. I've read several books by Daniel Kraus (Whalefall, Rotters, Bent Heavens, The Teddies Trilogy) and I'm really looking forward to this one. It seems very personal, about the impact one movie can make on someone's life. Reading books has always been cool and is an excellent way to protest the grotesque overbearing inescapable push for everything AI!

Come to a place called PINKY SWEAR tomorrow night and have a drink. 7-9pm. Come escape the dread. Or face it, perhaps? 171A Chrystie St. New York, NY 10002
