Rediscover Parnell Village: Video Highlights!
Parnell residents, people working locally, and visitors from further afield in Auckland watched Art Battle, interacted with Angus Muir’s light installations, listened to live performances from the talented musicians at Youth Arts New Zealand (YANZ), and visited local businesses offering late night trade and pop-up activations.

• Manuka Smoke
• Foraged Lavender
Inspired by locality, I wanted to make a drink that would highlight the wonderful flavour profile of my favourite Irish Whiskey,Jameson Black Barrel.
I wanted to focus my entry on ingredients immediately available to me - so sought out to use simple ingredients, that really lets the sprit itself shine as the main star.
Foraged lavender accentuates the flavours of sweet vanilla on the palate, whilst using a multi flora honey syrup lends the drink a smooth finish, butterscotch, caramel and rich spices coming to the fore.
The use of Single Pot Still whiskey and ageing in sherry casks gives the drink a nutty profile that is sharpened by the addition of saline solution, a nod to the sea breeze that is synonymous with the coast of New Zealand.
Finally, to enhance the smoky profile given to the whiskey by the Double-Charred barrels, I have smoked the drink with Manuka Wood Chips offering a bold, sweet and earthy flavour.

Barrel Aged Apple Brandy
Jameson Black Black Barrel is an exceptional blend of whiskey. It has all the flavour profiles I love, and I highlight them in this cocktail. Aged in three different casks, and triple distilled in traditional copper pot stills, it has a unique flavour profile which is rich and sublimely smooth.
The toasted malt brings out the flavours of the select malt used in the mash before it’s even distilled, combining with the sweetness and toast of the sherry and bourbon barrels.
The honey adds subtle floral notes and sweetness, while the aromas of butterscotch, toffee, and fudge shine through.
Pōhutukawa smoke blends with the intensity of the toasted oak barrels and the richness of the vanilla.
Nutty notes and spices are complimented by a barrel aged cider, an homage to my west country heritage, and bring it all together to create the Kiwi Crumble.
Garnished with Locally foraged Pōhutukawa flower, known for strength and beauty.

Jameson Black Barrel • Mānuka Vermouth • Hawke’s Bay Nectarines • L&P • Pavlova Foam
Known for its rich caramel, butterscotch, and creamy vanilla tones, Jameson Black Barrel fits into the mould for a Kiwi summer by way of our favourite sweet treat: the Pavlova.
Fermented and distilled mānuka honey creates a vermouth, flavoured with mānuka tea, harakeke and toasted pohutukawa wood to complement the nutty profile given to the Jameson Black Barrel from their oloroso casks, while also boosting up that creamy, sweet vanilla profile.
Fresh Hawke’s Bay nectarines provide a brightness, a rich stone fruit element that contrasts some of the butterscotch, caramel tones in Jameson Black Barrel, for a fun, complex twist.
A simple L&P top-up sends this into a zesty frenzy of delicious intricacy with its Kiwi icon status, and a charred pavlova foam to mirror the char of the black barrels just drives the message home.
