San Francisco doesn’t always get credit for its fashion scene — and honestly, that’s part of the conversation we’d like to keep having.

For a long time now, tech culture and its uniform have not-so-quietly overshadowed something that was always here: a city with genuine style DNA. Vintage-filled Haight Street. The vibrant, expressive energy of the Mission. The experimental creative hubs slowly reclaiming space all over town. SF has always had it — it just doesn’t always make the mood boards.

For one night at @hoteldelsol, @the_livingarchive_ said: take a peak.

Emerging designers reimagining discarded materials and weaving their cultural heritage into every stitch. Artists and makers sharing the same space as the people who would wear their work. Folks from every walk of life, dressed in their most expressive, most themselves — coming together to celebrate something that felt like a quiet reclamation.

Getting your clothes repaired for free at the public library is a form of resistance! Refusing to buy in to a culture of disposable fashion, keeping things out of landfill, it doesn’t seem like much, but it’s powerful.

Despite city budget cuts, we still got funded to do these repair clinics this year which is awesome. But the fact that we could have lost these events, and the fact that other important services are being cut in SF, I can’t help but think… How the actual F@#! can there be 30 billionaires living in this city (yes I said billionaires) and any single non-profit isn’t being funded??!!

How can you have so much money and not want to use it to help your community and those around you?? What is wrong with rich people?? Ok, I know, not ALL rich people… I just can’t fathom an existence where I didn’t feel in my bones the need to help other people.

Sorry, I’m just having some feelings over here because i believe if someone has the privilege to be able to give back, it’s a moral imperative that they do so.

Anyway… Our next mending clinic is at the Parkside branch!
