The role of a focus puller is often times regarded as a “thankless job”

Do it right over and over again, and nobody will notice.

Make a mistake once, and all eyes are on you.

Therefore it’s a quite stressful job as it requires immense precision and focus on getting the job done!

Some of the best focus pullers in the world are able to pull focus without even using a monitor, by just going off of distance between the camera and the actors.

It’s an art form itself!

The Artist vs The Art 🏎️

The Formula 1 Cam Ops are built differently!

They have the fastest cars, but also the fastest Camera Operators!

With cars coming at you at 200+ mph, it takes a good operator to make sure the action stays in frame.

There’s a lot that goes into a Formula 1 broadcast.

With around 25 cameras positioned around the track, plus five roving pit operators and an onboard camera on every one of the 20 cars.

Some cars might have an additional rear view camera or camera that’s down front where the wing of the car is.

In addition to that, there is a Helicopter camera that’s using a @shotoversystems, hovering around the track and capturing the action.

As well as a CAMCAT which is an overhead camera on a wire which records between the pit lane and the starting positions of the race.

Plus some more additional cameras around the F1 paddock to capture close ups of the cars, pit stops, as well as people walking around the paddock.

Some tracks even have cameras in the ground which really show the insane speed of Formula 1 cars!

An absolutely crazy and extremely well controlled chaos that goes on for the whole race!

Live productions are always very hectic and fast paced.

Having to make decisions in fractions of a second, which is why it’s so important for everyone to be on the same page.

Communication is key in these scenarios!

Watch how the crew of the “Imperfect Women” series shot this walk and talk scene.

The scene was shot on a Steadicam to stabilize the camera while the two actors are talking.

You can see the Grip department is walking with them, using a Large inflatable diffusion.

This allows them to diffuse the sunlight, while it being lightweight enough to move around during the shot.
