As a kid I always thought Nightmare on Elm Street II Freddy’s Revenge was so fucking random. Later I heard it had gay undertones I might’ve missed. So I decided to check it out for myself now as an adult. And it’s not just homoerotic subtext - it’s a full on GAY movie - and a story about internalized homophobia that has far more resonance for our current moment than I ever imagined. And the story behind the making of the film and the era it was created in can teach us a lot about the situation we’re in now - where the queer community once again finds itself again the target of vicious hate. I’ve been working on this hour plus basically documentary video essay for over a year now and thrilled to share it with the world. The whole video drops next week on our YouTube channel, but you can get early access now exclusively on Patreon. http://patreon.com/c/Manboynice ALSO look at my RAD shirt from @smalltown_weirdo! I’m obsessed with @adambucci5 ‘s incredible designs! Go buy his work!!!

Hiya friends and freaks and also especially queers - have you watched The Queerties yet?! It’s in my very bias opinion, the very best Queer Award show around and this year also has Trixie Mattel and Margaret Cho and Megan Stalter and Mae Martin and is generally just a gay ass time AND you can watch the whole show on @wowpresentsplus presents plus especially if you’re a drag race kinda girlie who already has it.
On a personal note, my bro and I always LOVE getting to head up the video production part of this show - from the sizzle reels to the shoot to edit to final videos - and especially getting to work with the @johnhalbach and @mariatridas and the entire rad @queerty team to level the show up every year. This show is seriously so fun to work on, and always has an impeccable host from Bianca del Rio to Jinkx Monsoon to Bob the Drag Queen to now Trixie Mattel? I mean come on - that’s like the Mount Rushmore of Drag Queens.
My favorite thing about working on this show is that this show actually DOES lift up queer voices. Which I know is like a corny ass thing to say. But it’s true. It brings queer people together from all different industries and all different phases of their careers to the same place to lift every one up. And people really do meet each other and find ways to collaborate. In fact, I started out as a Queerties nominee with my series Matt and Dan - and through my work on that I began working on helping bringing The Queerties to life. It’s a reminder to me of the importance of celebrating each other. Also of being gay duh 🌈

Did you know the Manboynice icon - created by the incredible @michaelthomasgrant - is a reference to one of my all time favorite films and imo the best Christmas movie of all time GREMLINS?! Well now you do! And my bro Will and I just launched our Patreon exclusive podcast with a discussion of this absolute (flawed) masterpiece. The film took on an even deeper meaning for me when some years back I got to be the audiobook narrator of director Chris Columbus’ fantasy book series with the late great Ned Vizzini - House of Secrets. Check it out on Patreon! Link in bio and junk

Hail ye @manboynice for creating this WAYS-terpiece from the Bette Davis-led corn-crammed craziness that is THE DARK SECRET OF HARVEST HOME (1978). Listen to us discuss this folk horror/agrarian cult landmark ‘70’s soaked mini-series on my MONDAY AFTERNOON MOVIE podcast up now.
On this Thanksgiving Eve, I ask ye: whatexactly is THE DARK SECRET OF HARVEST HOME? It’s certainly not corn, because you’ve never seen a piece of media so openly obsessed with 🌽🌽🌽in all your days &that includes SHUCKED. As NovemBETTE continues on my podcast THE MONDAY AFTERNOON MOVIE, the mighty Daniel Gordh @manboynice & I plow into the folk horror hysteria of this 1978 smash mini-series, a confusing yet rivetingmash-up where The Wicker Man meets The Stepford Wives meets Midsommar meets Crowhaven Farm, et al.Our star is of course the formidable Bette Davis as The Widow Fortune, who rules a New England pagan corn crib cult in the quaint, Amish-ish town of Cornwall Coombe, Connecticut with a tart tongue & a mysterious bag of folk remedies. Not since Baby Jane has she been so exquisitely cast. If you watch this (please do) & took a shot (please don’t) every time they say CORN, THE WAYS, or THE MOTHER you’d end up in the ER by Act 2 of 7. Also involved: a teen-age Rosanna Arquette, a feral, blood-stained Missy Gold, horses, “The Corn Play,” ritual blood sacrifice, asthma, corn, 47 different festivals, weird slow-motion Harvest Lord dancing, corn, terrible ADR, corn, pickling, therapy, corn, toxic matriarchy, male blindings, dirty sex in a mud river, gigantism, tongue removals, & corn. As I say on the pod (up now on all platforms!) it basically boils down to “Get shucked or get f#cked!” 🌽🧙🏻♀️😎

Well this is freakin RAD 🥰🥰🥰 @nerdist wrote about my video essay about the queer themes, history, and impact of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge and obvs its utter gayness. This movie is so much more nuanced than its given credit for, and has more implications for the queer community in 2025 than it has any right to have.AND thrilled to give this film (and Icons @markpattonnoes2 and @kimmyersofficial) a little extra love before its 40th anniversary and 4k restoration! Thanks Nerdist! You’re the cutest 🥰🥹 also go watch “Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street” #freddysrevenge #queerhorror #manboynice
Freddy’s Revenge is 40 years old…and so are you!!! 😭 😈 🥰 And I made a in depth video essay about it you can watch on YouTube right NOW LINK IN BIO or go to YouTube.com/@manboynice!!! I wanted to launch my YouTube channel with something that not only I was passionate and nerdy about, but something that matters now, and the moment in America A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge was released in theatres bares an eerie similarity to the anti-queer moment we’re in now. And the homophobia that legend and ICON @markpattonnoes2 experienced as a gay actor in 1985 mirrored some of my own decades later. Go watch and tell me what you think 🥰 #freddysrevenge #anightmareonelmstreet2 #manboynice #queer

Before I committed to launching this channel, I spent a loooot of time setting up sample shots, playing with color, and figuring out if I really wanted to do it. This video’s a tiny lil peek behind the curtain at that process. https://www.patreon.com/Manboynice

Welp, here goes! Manboynice is coming to YouTube!!! After years in artistic hibernation, I am fucking thrilled to announce a new project I’ve been pouring my queer heart and soul into. A place where I can severely nerd out about horror and gaming and obscure media and bring a political and historical and obviously gay perspective. It’s been humbling to launch a new project at 40. Part of me just wanted to give up and go into hiding forever instead. But tbh that wouldn’t have really been that much fun would it? Now for the love of all that is holy please go like and subscribe and follow me on @patreon at patreon.com/manboynice 😘😘😘
Sometimes it’s hard to get on the same page about commitment level, you know?
