I had the honor of meeting the beautiful and talented Iris Nesher.In a solemn moment she explained her new exhibition that beautifully exemplifies her own fragility after the loss of her son.
This exhibition marks Israeli artist-ceramicist Iris Nesher’s first solo presentation in the United States, unveiling a new body of work developed with the curatorial collaboration of Design historian and expert Daniella Ohad and Courbet. The selected pieces reflect Nesher’s ongoing exploration of porcelain’s expressive quality, its fragile nature and its malleability. Hand-modeled by the artist, cach piece bears subtle traces of her fingers’ touch and the creation process. Whether displayed as an ensemble or individually, the resulting pieces embody a delicate, honest simplicity and a confident fragility.
Based inTel Aviv, Nesher has built a multidisciplinary practice for over two decades. Her earlier work in fine-art photography - recognized for its restraint, tonal nuance, and emotional precision - continues to inform her approach to form and composition Neshers transition to ceramics emerged from a photographic project centered on still-lifes and expressive tableware. Drawing on her background in sculpture, Nesher experimented with a range of clays before discovering Limoges porcelain, prized for its purity, strength, and delicacy.
