Selected through the Heritage Trail design competition, these beautiful art installations will showcase a level of Architectural design that elevates the experience of touring Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park.

‘Shout’, by Architectural Designer Rayshad Dorsey transforms this very site into a space for reflection, remembrance, and community connection. Inspired by the tradition of the Ring Shout and the power of Negro spirituals, the installation uses light, movement, and etched lyrics to honor the voices and resilience of Mitchelville’s ancestors.

Shout is designed to keep history alive,inviting visitors to gather, reflect, and experience the enduring spirit of freedom.

These benches bring special meaning to the park because they remind us of something that was incredibly important to our ancestors - a connection to a greater power and an unwavering belief that freedom would one day come.
