Twenty-five years ago, I was a young kid from Delaware making the drive to Philadelphia to compete in Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) junior events.

I didn’t know exactly where the game would take me. I just knew I loved to compete.

Philadelphia has always been part of my story. My mother was born and raised there, and I grew up cheering for the Eagles, Sixers, Phillies, and Flyers. The city’s toughness, pride, and sense of community left a lasting impression on me.

Golf opened doors for me that I never imagined.

As a junior, I was fortunate to win tournaments. Years later, the same organization I once competed in featured me on the cover of GAP Magazine in a story called “Exerting Influence,” highlighting the journey of building Eastside Golf and our mission to make the game more inclusive.

And now, this Saturday, we’re bringing Eastside Golf Community Day to Cobbs Creek Golf Course during PGA Championship week.

That’s what a full-circle moment looks like.

From a junior golfer trying to find his way, to helping create opportunities for the next generation to see themselves in the game.

This is more than an event.

It’s a reminder that dreams do come true.

See you Saturday, Philly.

It was an honor working within your administration. Together, we made a real impact on the community and the city I’ll always call home.

Wilmington and Delaware will forever be grateful for your leadership, vision, and commitment to the people. Your legacy is strong and will continue to live on through the lives you touched and the opportunities you helped create.

A true giant for our city.

I’ll always miss you, Mayor Mike. ❤️

Appreciate you, Brandon. A true Super Bowl champion, and someone who’s been rocking with the @eastsidegolf from early on. It also meant a lot to see him step up and support the @boyslatingolfteam with a donation during the event. That’s what community is all about.

I grew up an Eagles fan with deep family ties to Philly, so seeing a true Philadelphia legend supporting Eastside Golf was special.

What’s even crazier is our first meeting was at the University of Michigan — two guys born in Michigan now connected on the golf course in Philadelphia.

Life comes full circle.

Some people enter your life at exactly the right moment and change your trajectory forever.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my friend, former boss Mayor Mike Purzycki

Mike was the first person to hire me—not because of my golf ability, but because he believed in me as a young man.

At the time, I had just been named one of Golf Digest’s Best Young Teachers in America, but I knew in my heart that I wanted to do something bigger than teach golf. I wanted to help change the lives.

A lot of people thought I was crazy for wanting to leave the comfort and security of the country club to chase an idea rooted in community and culture.

Mike never looked at me that way.

He listened. He asked questions. And when it became clear how deeply I believed in the vision, he gave me the runway to pursue it. He often said, “If you believe in it, go after it.”

One of the best examples of that was HBCU Week, which I co-founded during my time in administration. What started as an idea became a life-changing platform for countless students. Mike immediately understood the impact it could have and never hesitated to support it—through his time, his relationships, and even his own resources.

As Eastside Golf grew, the joy on his face whenever I came home was unforgettable. Seeing him hold our Jordan collaborations, wear Eastside Golf, and watch our Hulu documentary with genuine pride meant more to me than he probably ever knew.

He believed in me before many others did.

Most importantly, Mike was a family man who loved deeply and gave selflessly. He was not perfect, but he cared, he showed up, and he made a lasting impact on so many lives.

I feel incredibly blessed to have known him.

Thank you, Mike, for giving me a chance, for believing in me, and for encouraging me to dream bigger.

I love you, Mike.
