This day 10 years ago was full of highs and lows. My band @cpcmusic had our album release party at PB Cantina, formerly Longboards. We had been working on the album tirelessly and were excited for the show. Unfortunately at the same time, my Dad’s battle with Pancreatic Cancer was close to ending. He had been released from the hospital to hospice care 3 weeks before. I spent every second I could with him, I didn’t have a background or understanding on how to handle this.
I asked my Dad if I should cancel the show, and he told me no. He told me to carry on and play the show. That is what we did. After we got off stage I had missed a call from my Mom. She was calling to tell me that my Dad had passed. I was in shock. The rest of that day is a blur. I went home and said my goodbyes. It had been a 5 year battle, and it wasn’t shocking- but despite the time to prepare, it was the hardest thing I had experienced at the time. I have processed that experience and night ever since.
Not a day goes by when I don’t miss my Dad, or talk to him through the universe. I am so thankful to have had such a great father.Loss becomes part of who we are.. etched into us like a carving on a tree. You can always see it, but with time it heals and becomes part of the tree. Music has been my way of understanding the world, and it is my Dad who first taught me. I am forever grateful. ❤️🤘
