"Yellow Letters," the newly awarded Berlinale winner, opens in German cinemas tomorrow, March 5, 2026

In his festival-winning film, director İlker Çatak tells the story of surviving in an autocratic society – not didactically or moralistically, but with painful honesty.

Derya and Aziz are a celebrated artist couple in Ankara. Their lives change overnight after an incident at the premiere of their new play, where they are targeted by the state for their political stance.

Forced to move to Istanbul to live with Aziz's parents, the couple must redefine their lives with their 13-year-old daughter, Ezgi.

The film explores the immense pressure on their marriage as they struggle to balance their personal values and political convictions with the harsh necessities of survival in an authoritarian system.
