Subvert is a new music platform – owned and controlled by its members, a true cooperative.

I’ve long been a supporter of alternative music platforms. While Bandcamp continues to be a great option, it is privately-owned and has been sold several times in recent years with no input from the community. There will always be a lingering threat that an AI company could acquire it, triggering a great exodus from the platform and a collapse of the site as we know it. There are better ways forward, for both artists and listeners.

Subvert takes 0% of all sales, all of your money makes it directly to the artist. Members (both artists and listeners) have a real role there, voting on any board elections, changes to bylaws, and major decisions. This is a platform built from the ground up to offer long-term stability for its community.

If you’ve been a supporter of mine over the years, THANK YOU. Shifting from one platform to another as a listener can be frustrating, and I didn’t want anyone to feel like they had to re-purchase music that they had already bought on Bandcamp. That’s why I’ve made all of my releases free to Subvert members through May 31st – an easy way to kickstart your collection there.

All of my releases will continue to be available on Bandcamp, and going forward all new releases will be provided on both Subvert and Bandcamp.

Saturday March 14 • Wooden Tooth Records presents PLUR ANNIHILATION – the release party for Nullsleep’s “Boundary” EP

Nullsleep is the alias of Jeremiah Johnson an electronic music producer and creative technologist based in Tucson since 2020. He employs obsolete hardware and a DIY ethos to produce lo-tek hi-nrg music – mutating and intersecting jungle, footwork, acid, chiptune, and gabber.

He is the founder of 8bitpeoples, a netlabel focused on music made with early computers and videogame consoles in a deliberate rejection of planned obsolescence.

His new release is a hallucinogenic journey through the hardcore continuum from breakbeat hardcore to rapid-fire post-chiptune rave, and has drawn comparisons to Oneohtrix Point Never, The Prodigy, and Future Sound of London.

The release party will take place at the Congress St location of Wooden Tooth. It will open at 7:30pm with a curated playlist of music, followed at 9:00pm by a brief talk providing some insight into the making of the EP and a live performance of it from beginning to end.

NMLSTYL
nmlstyl is joey mariano’s audio visual project. The live show combines chip/synth/vapor-wave, surf rock, techno, instrumental hip hop, and retro 80s textures. Influenced by video game soundtracks, jazz professionals, and DIY punk, their performances offer a mix of nostalgic and contemporary sounds. Live, the electronic beats are replaced by Yusef Kelliebrew’s powerful and dynamic drumming.
