Ready to take on the challenge?
• Open to emerging professionals and final-year student ASLA members
• Individuals or teams of up to three
• Free to enter
• Submissions due July 16
First Prize: Complimentary conference registration to ASLA 2026 or ASLA 2027

Supporting pollinators and reducing urban heat can happen together.
At Richmond Highlands Park in Shoreline, Washington, continuous blooming attracts diverse pollinators across the growing season, while new trees lay the groundwork for future canopy shade and heat sinks that reduce temperatures.
Our team designs public spaces with these biodiversity and climate strategies together to make ecosystems stronger and communities more resilient. — Christian Runge, ASLA, PLA, principal at Mithun and co-chair, ASLA Climate & Biodiversity Committee Biodiversity Subcommittee

What happens when a beloved landscape begins to disappear?
After the Ashes reimagines Eugene’s Amazon Park following the devastation of the Emerald Ash Borer beetle.
By restoring pre-colonial camas meadow conditions and creating spaces for reflection and habitat restoration, the design remembers what was lost while adapting to a changing future.

Parks can fight climate change while boosting biodiversity.
At Beech Bluff County Park in Wake County, North Carolina, innovative stormwater systems capture and filter runoff while creating healthier habitats for native plants and wildlife.
A solar-powered classroom and hands-on spaces like the Harvest Hub connect K–12 students and the broader community to local ecology, history, and wellness.
With more than 200 programs reaching over 4,700 participants, the park demonstrates how thoughtfully designed landscapes can support climate action, education, and community health all at once. — Eric Davis, FASLA, @surface_678

In Kyiv, Ukraine, UNIT.City reclaims a once-restricted area, establishing a walkable, climate-responsive urban environment that enhances connectivity.
By prioritizing people-first design and green infrastructure, the project shows how industrial heritage can be transformed into thriving, future-ready districts.
“The diversity of landscape spaces and their integration into the existing fabric of this post-industrial site is very successful.” — 2025 Awards Jury

Native meadows build soil carbon and support pollinators.
At a preschool in Kansas City, conventional lawn was replaced with native meadows, rain gardens, and woodland plantings that help:
• Filter stormwater
• Sequester carbon
• Create year-round habitat for pollinators + birds
• Give children a living classroom to explore
"Small sites, big impact: this is how we build climate resilience and biodiversity into every project we take on.” — Maria Landoni, ASLA, founder of @surlandscapearchitecture
