“We want Boise to continue to be a great place to live and visit.”
For Vicki Carley, that vision takes shape through the partnerships, events, and long-term collaborations helping position Boise as a destination city.
From major tournaments at @idahocentralarena to conventions that bring new energy into downtown, much of the work happens quietly behind the scenes through relationship building, coordination, and a shared investment in the city’s future.
The result reaches far beyond tourism. It supports local businesses, strengthens community connection, and helps preserve the character that continues to draw people here in the first place.

“Habits don’t change overnight.” ✨
Moving far beyond the exhausting cycle of fitness extremes, calorie deprivation, and the relentless pressure to shrink, Olivia, Peyton, and Grace, the founders of The Growth Project, are quietly leading a revolution in how women approach their bodies. For these three former athletes and fitness professionals, the turning point came when they realized that many women weren't lacking discipline; they were simply lacking the education to properly fuel their lives.
Through their shared philosophy, they are dismantling the culture of restriction and replacing it with sustainable strength training, deep metabolic nutrition, and behavioral trust. By teaching women to view food as vital fuel rather than something to fear, The Growth Project is empowering individuals to step off the treadmill of punishment, build long-term health, and confidently claim their space both inside the gym and out.

She almost said no. 🚫💡
In the 1970s, while scouting a fundraiser space, Vangie Osborn spotted two forgotten signs collecting dust — a Royal Optical eyeglasses and a Quickie Café coffee cup. ☕👓
She passed.
Then she couldn't stop thinking about them. 💭
Decades later, that quiet second-thought has become the Neon Grove — Boise's first outdoor neon gallery, glowing every night on Grove Street. 🌃✨
"Just do it," she says. "Don't let a good idea die." 🔥

The Idaho Press Club does an amazing job year-round, but I have to admit a special fondness for the Annual Awards! Jana Kemp and I represented @boiselifestyle and @meridian.lifestyle this year, and we cleaned up for periodicals! Seven awards total, with myself netting four of those! We placed in cover photography and design, food photography, light feature, and serious feature.
Thank you to the readers, the interviewees, and all the amazing folks who tell the story of Idaho every day!

“Upon Closer Reflection” is a special exhibition of watercolor paintings that begin with observation of the natural world and gradually moves toward abstraction.
Starting from familiar forms, each piece evolves as color, movement, and pattern begin to take on a life of their own.
Rooted in quiet moments (light shifting across a surface, subtle changes in texture) Beth Trott’s work invites viewers to slow down and look more closely.
Join us for the opening reception:
Downtown Boise’s First Thursday, May 7
5–9 pm
Art Source Gallery
1516 W Grove St, Boise
The exhibition runs May 5–30.

Fo r many children, opportunity begins with something as simple as a pair of shoes.
Across Southern Idaho, the Sneakers for Kids initiative by the Idaho Youth Sports Commission is helping ensure that no child sits on the sidelines due to something so essential. Led by community advocates like Brian King and Bryan Mooney, the program is set to provide up to 1,000 pairs of new shoes—opening doors to sports, school, and everyday confidence.
Behind each pair is something greater than support. It’s a chance to participate, to belong, and to step forward with confidence in moments that shape childhood.

Spring has a way of inviting us back outside. 🪻
As the season shifts, it’s the perfect time to begin planting—bringing color, texture, and new life into the spaces we tend every day. Whether it’s a garden bed, a patio planter, or a quiet corner of the yard, the act of planting becomes something more than routine. It’s a reset, a return, and a small investment in the months ahead.
The season doesn’t rush—and neither should the process.
