Exactly three years ago today, the California State Assembly passed AJR5 condemning the expulsion of two Black Tennessee lawmakers for protesting gun violence on the House floor. That same day, @brotherjones_ stood in the Assembly Chamber as California Democrats made clear that silencing dissent is an attack on democracy itself.

Yesterday, following the historic passage of AJR31 to restore the Voting Rights Act of 1965, he returned to the State Capitol with the same message: multiracial democracy is under attack, and history will judge what we do in this moment.

From Tennessee to California, the fight remains the same: defend democracy, protect the right to be heard, and refuse to back down.

History teaches us that attacks on voting rights are never isolated incidents. Dr. King reminds us that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, so Assembly Democrats stand with our brethren in places like Tennessee where Trump and his minions are trying to silence minority voters. Assembly Democrats stand firmly with those fighting to have their voice heard.
