🚨 Introducing: We Exist Legal — a new advice service supporting Trans+ people navigating the asylum and immigration system. 🏳️‍⚧️

Trans+ people seeking asylum are too often detained, disbelieved, and dehumanised. We’re here to change that.

This is a project by We Exist and @asylumjustice, bringing together Trans+ organising and legal strategy to fight for trans safety and freedom.

🏳️‍⚧️ Free legal advice
🏳️‍⚧️ Specialist support for Trans+ asylum seekers
🏳️‍⚧️ Strategic casework + referrals
🏳️‍⚧️Justice-first — not profit, not charity

Led by Hussein Said — member of We Exist, human rights lawyer, founder of the LGBTQ+ Law Clinic, and trustee of Rainbow Migration — this is legal support rooted in solidarity.

We believe no one is illegal — and that Trans+ people deserve to live, move, and thrive in safety.

@amnestyuk’s latest analysis is grim.

Before 2017, only 3 anti-trans organisations identified in their research existed in the UK. In 2026, Amnesty mapped more than 50. That’s no coincidence.

Four major UK newspapers, owned by men who’ve hoarded more wealth than they could ever spend (apart from The Guardian which is an outlier in the UK media landscape), published around 17,000 articles about “trans issues” in just five years, averaging 9 articles every single day.

Their coverage was not only wildly disproportionate to the size of the trans population (around 0.5% of the UK), but overwhelmingly amplified anti-trans campaigners while excluding trans people from reporting about their own lives.

It’s an organised, well-funded campaign against one of the most marginalised and vulnerable communities in society. A community who deserve the same care, safety, dignity, and frankly, lifespan, as everyone else.

Trans people have always existed, and always will exist, regardless of what the powerful are pushing.

You can read Amnesty’s full report and analysis via the 🔗 in my bio.

@cardifftranspride have also organised a demo on 25/5/26 @ 13:00, Cardiff Castle. “Join us for a rallying cry to show the UK government that we refuse to have our rights debated and refuse to be erased. 25/5/26 @ 13:00, Cardiff Castle.” 🏳️‍⚧️🤝🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

@amnestyuk’s latest analysis is grim.

CARDIFF MARCH FOR TRANS LIBERATION

MONDAY 25TH MAY - 1PM - CARDIFF CASTLE

It’s been a year since the last trans liberation march and things have only gotten more dire.

With the newly released EHRC guidance it is now more clear than ever that we as a community need to come together and fight for our right to be recognised with dignity and afforded the same respect as everyone else in society.

Join us for a rallying cry to show the UK government that we refuse to have our rights debated and refuse to be erased.

ALT TEXT:

A flyer for a Trans Liberation March in Cardiff, with text in all capitals against a photo of the 2024 trans liberation demo.

The text reads:
Cardiff march for Trans Liberation
Say NO to the EHRC guidance!
Monday 25th May - 1pm
Cardiff Castle, Castle Street, CF10 3RB
Bring signs, flags, water, suncream and noise!

LGBTQ+ asylum seekers are not the problem.

They are people seeking protection from real persecution. Recent reporting on malpractice must not be used to fuel suspicion or undermine their claims.

The focus must remain on fairness, dignity, and justice within the asylum system.

Equality and Human Rights Commission Protest & Counter-Protest / Protest a Gwrth-brotest y Comisiwn Cydraddoldeb a Hawliau Dynol (11/04/26)

- Police kept the protest and counter-protest on opposite sides of the square, with officers policing the centre. When I asked for clarification on where I could and couldn’t go, I received different answers from different officers, something other members of the media experienced too.

- Representatives from UNISON’s Cardiff LGBT+ member group (@unisoncymrulgbtplus) were present at the counter-protest, standing by their commitment to challenge discrimination and prejudice in the workplace on behalf of their lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender+ members.

- It was difficult to position myself in a place where I could document the speeches and attendees of the protest. This was due to the police presence, as well as my previous experiences with the protest’s security, who were also present and whose authority in a public space remained unclear.

- On the occasion I attempted to find a position to document the protest, a man associated with the protest repeatedly circled me, photographing and filming me on his personal phone. When I asked why he was doing that and to stop, he laughed and continued for a significant amount of time, before hiding behind a lamppost while still filming and photographing me. Make of that what you will…

Counter demonstration against a protest planned by a group campaigning against the rights of specifically trans women

The police kept both sides quite far away from eachother so there wasn't really any interaction or confrontation between either party

Glad to be back in Cardiff after Easter break
