In a moment when funding for community-centered, accessible arts experiences is more uncertain than ever, fundraising isn’t just important — it’s what makes everything possible. Scholarships. Teaching artist compensation. Program expansion. The ability to say yes to families who need it most.

That’s why we’re so excited to announce the Caz Family Camp Concert Fundraiser — Sunday, June 21 (Father’s Day) at the legendary St. Elmo Village in Mid-City LA, 3–8 PM.

Performances by two incredible members of the extended Caz community: Maya Jupiter and Murs. (And yes — Maya is returning to teach at camp this summer!)

While Caz lives in the Northern California redwoods, our community has always stretched far beyond any single place. This year, we’re leaning intentionally into our growing LA roots as we step into a new era of year-round Caz Arts programming.

St. Elmo Village: a historic artist community founded in 1969 and recently designated an LA Historic-Cultural Monument — is one of the most genuinely open, community-rooted spaces in the city. Its spirit of creativity, connection, and collective care runs deep. It rhymes with everything Caz is about.

Come gather with us and support the future of Caz.

Capoeiragem! Thank you Mestra @pavaozinha and Mestre @chegadocapoeira @capoeirabrasilnela for creating a supportive community and this beautiful week of connection. Connection with the music, the movement, the teachers, fellow students, capoeiristas traveling from other cities and countries to spend time together playing this beautiful art form. Thank you to all the special guests, our Professor @quebrado.capoeira and Mestre Boneco @simasbetosimas 🤍🙏🏽 We push our bodies and our minds beyond comfort and limits and our hearts expand. Filled with love, respect and appreciation for all who came before, who continue to pave the way, who have dedicated their lives to Capoeira.
When I first started training, a blue/red cord felt so out of reach. I feel proud of achieving this personal goal, later in life and as a Mother. And to play alongside my children is the ultimate gift. Viva meu deus, viva meu mestres, que me ensinou, a Capoeira! 🙏🏽🙌🏽

If this little hip hop loving, basketball playing girl knew she’d be sharing a chapter in Chuck D’s book on Art and Activism… well I think she would’ve felt like it was impossible. I’m still screaming. What an honor to feature in the pages alongside incredible thinkers, academics and artists that I continue to learn so much from, GIANTS. Robin D.G Kelley, Jeff Chang, Samy Alim, Joan Morgan, Davey D, Gaye Theresa Johnson, to name a few.. I’m a girl from Western Sydney and I feel eternally grateful for the city that raised me. I will always represent my roots. I’ve been wanting to share my story for a long time. This feels like a small step in that direction. Thank you @mrchuckd for continuing to move us forward, IN THE HOUR OF CHAOS.

Evolve Altadena’s group meeting took place at @metabolicstudio today. We got a tour of their site and the work they’re doing with the LA River and soil bio remediation. It was an enlightening experience and we look forward to growing together. 🌱💚

Our offering to Divine Black Women was INCREDIBLE 💜 A beautiful space filled with the Divine Black Women in our lives, our brothers, friends, siblings, and allies. The sun shined on our gathering on the hill all day long. In the midst of constant struggle, dehumanization, and misogynoir we will never give in. We reminded each other that as we fight for our people we can carve out spaces of healing at the same time.

We are so immensely grateful to the family of #BreonnaTaylor, the beautiful light of a woman who inspired this offering, as well as the families of Jacob Blake Jr. #KennethRossJr #KeithPorter #GrecharioMack and #SkyYoung for sharing space with us on Sunday. A huge thank you to our performers @aloeblacc @mayajupiter @legendmedusa and so many other incredibly talented people, healers, and energy workers for offering their gifts to Black Women. The love was palpable!! Black Women Are Divine!!!
