Can You Jigit?

As we grow and evolve, its time to expand the happenings during our favorite Can You Jigit? weekend of the year..
With great excitement we announce the launch of our new series “Jigit in Concert”. An extension of the Can You Jigit? events focused on putting the spotlight on musicians we admire.

For the initiation, it is a huge honor to introduce our guest of honor, the queen of Brazilian funk, Fernanda Abreu who will be performing live with her band at the soulful Brooklyn oasis, Xanadu, in collaboration with ReSolute and Funky Seshwa. The night begins with a skating session with DJs from 7 PM and will continue in concert and boogie mode after 10 PM until 2 AM.

Fernanda Abreu is a legendary Brazilian singer, who has released iconic albums such as “Sla Radical Disco Club”, “A Noite” and “SLA2/ Be Sample” across the 90s which bridged different worlds of Pop, Funk, Hip-Hop, MBP and Club music incorporating everything from Carioca funk to Miami Bass in her sound identity. Singing in different forms across the songs in her album, recording some hits like “A Noite”, “Space Sound to Dance”, “Kamikaze do Amor”, “Venus Cat People”.
She represents the urban sound of Rio de Janeiro which she pioneered, with a captivating stage presence that is even more impressive than her timeless studio recordings.

Joining Fernanda and her band will be Colombian maestro of universal vinyl rarities Don Alirio, los Jigitos O.BEE & Tomas Station, Funky Seshwa groover Willy Soul and Genevieve V of the cosmic gathering Secular Sabbath.

tickets are available both as a single entry for the night and as a double weekend pass that grants access to all Can You Jigit? events

It feels very strange to promote any clubnight during the horrific state of the world we live in. Posting a flyer is an easy task but when one feels the need to write a few words for the situation, I cannot help but feel out of place as I extend an invitation during a time of extreme suffering.

I want to share some information regarding the concept behind the programming of the all night longs;
the flyers @aslitunaman has created have been determined through interaction with the ancient divination text of the I Ching, the book of changes. Each night has been programmed through seeking guidance from the book in terms of direction, which has always provided me insight for the path of life as well as laying foundation for each night as well as the aesthetic.
The outcome is determined through a process of tossing 3 coins and drawing lines which form a hexagram that leads to a certain chapter of the book, deciding the theme as well as the approach.
This process has given me direction in seeking answers from the universe which can always be adapted into meaningful ways of living.

The chapter that came up for this round is

Chapter 8: Holding Together (Unity)
When the waters are troubled, seek what is constant.
Those who share a true center draw together.
In sincerity there is union;
in union, strength.
Thus harmony grows, even in uncertain times.

Quite relevant. Quite powerful.
Also it is the 8th all night long I do at @h0l0.nyc

The importance of coming together in safe spaces to share feelings, not only for escapism but to remain as active individuals through unifying in times of extreme division.

Also, I’ve immensely missed playing music, the joy of bringing people together in sound and also having a dance that heals..

So starting it off in my favorite way, the all night long of undetermined length at my sonic home and then an adventure in the southern hemisphere..

Back from a supremely rejuvenating month, flipped the script from deterioration to recalibration.. for a refreshed vision, an eased mind, a rested body and a cleaned soul. The gift of time with family and friends but also a gentle reminder on the importance of making time to tend for the self in a time where the world is a ball of confusion and we are forced to keep up with a depleting system. May it be a year of radical thinking, compassionate action, less polarization but more participation, and pushing counter culture further.
