Paul Watkins had just succeeded James Tocco as the Festival's new Artistic Director, ushering in a new era of leadership. His inaugural Festival highlighted contemporary innovation alongside masterworks and featured the world premiere of Hand Eye, commissioned for eighth blackbird by the composer collective Sleeping Giant.
