Moving Beyond Text: Why Digital Inclusion Must Be Tactile

Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD 2026). The team at the GAAD Foundation remind us that digital spaces need to be designed for everyone, right from the start.

At Dot Inc., we are highlighting a part of accessibility that changes lives every day: the power of touch. For blind and low-vision individuals, true independence and literacy require the precision of braille and the spatial clarity of tactile graphics.

Why does touch matter so much for education and future careers?

* Independence in School and Work: Braille is the foundation of literacy. Being able to read and write for yourself is a leading predictor of academic success and finding a great career, whether you are taking notes in class or writing a report for work.

* Learning Science and Math: Subjects like math, science, and coding are deeply spatial. Tactile feedback allows the brain to map out complex equations, fractions, and code structures in a way that listening alone cannot easily replicate.

* Exploring Images and Maps: Diagrams, maps, and charts lose their meaning when they are just summarized in a text description. Tactile graphics allow students and adults to physically explore shapes, layouts, and data trends for themselves.

This commitment to tactile learning is why Dot Inc. is a proud partner of the ICEVI-WBU Global Braille Literacy Campaign. Together, we are working to ensure that braille and tactile tools are available to everyone as a foundational right.

We struck GOLD at the 2026 Edison Awards! 🏆

Last night in Florida, Dot Inc. took home the top honor at the 2026 Edison Awards, winning the Gold Prize in the Cultural Impact and Education category.

For nearly four decades, the Edison Awards have honored innovations that move the world forward. For the Dot Pad X to be recognized at this level highlights a shift in how the industry views accessibility - not just as a “feature,” but as a fundamental human right.

Our US Country Manager, Anat Nulman, accepted the award on behalf of the team, celebrating the years of research and dedication that went into making the Dot Pad X the world’s most advanced multiline Braille display. As she noted: “Being in that room, among those innovators, felt like exactly the right place for Dot Pad X to be recognized.”
