In the lead up to photo london we are continuing to showcase the works of our featured artists including @_katesch
Kate Schultze is a photographic artist and writer based between Berlin and the North of England. Her practice centers on the everydayness of European identity, exploring themes of memory, class, and cultural transition. Influenced by her East German background, she is particularly drawn to places shaped by post-industrial decline and the shifting realities of the working class. Her work has been exhibited internationally, and her photobook mind the gap, luv. is held in the collections of the Martin Parr Foundation and the Ernst Rietschel Kultursammlung. Schultze studied Photography at Lette Verein Berlin and English and Art History at Humboldt Universität Berlin.
Mind the gap, luv. explores the aftermath of the Brexit referendum, focusing on regions such as Yorkshire and the West Midlands where support for leaving the EU was strongest. Developed from the perspective of someone who lived between the UK and Germany since 2018, the project examines the cultural and political implications of Brexit, with particular attention to working-class adolescents and their sense of “Britishness” as a marker of identity. It captures the prevailing Zeitgeist while investigating the motivations behind the leave vote—often made without clear rationale—and considers the potential long-term effects on the UK’s future. The work explores how national identity and political decision-making intersect in a post-Brexit landscape. Its uniqueness lies in this dual position—being both embedded within and removed from British society—offering a perspective that is both critically reflective and intimately connected.

You like photography and you like books? Going to an art book shop can feel a bit overwhelming to you and you’re really wondering about what artists must have thought when they made THAT? You are trying to make your own project into a printed object but never find the right words to describe what you see and like (or hate)? You’re in my family or friendship circle and are wondering what I’m doing with my life when I say I work in photobooks?
Come to my workshop „A Beginner’s Guide to Reading and Understanding Photographic Publications“and I will explain all those things to you and help you find the words!
The wonderful people at @analoguenow have asked me to talk about photobooks and printed publications in photography. This is for everyone interested in.. I mean literally anything, you will find photobooks are for everyone.
No prior knowledge is required! And we tried to keep this super affordable and there is also a great discount for students available. The workshop is held in English but you can ask questions in German (I just don’t wanna make two presentations.) All the infos and booking can be found on the analogueNOW website.
Sunday 10.05.2026, 12-4pm at @fotogalerie.friedrichshain, 50€/30€ reduced.
Let’s get nerdyyyyyyyy and look at books and zines together! <3
(also dm me if you have any questions ofc!)

mind the gap, luv. is going to Athens! 🇬🇷🏛️
Thank you so much @womensphotofestival for selecting my work for the “Archives of Trauma” exhibition, it’s the 10th anniversary of Brexit this year so it does seem quite fitting.
The show opens next Friday, 03.04 and is in until 02.05 at @houseoflucieathens.
Sometimes everything seems to be happening all at once. Mentally I’m already on my way to Greece, realistically I’m still sat on my desk writing but I will be at the opening so come and say hi if you’re about! x
