🔴 ⚪ ODC/Dance names Mia J. Chong Co-Artistic Director!

ODC and ODC Founding Artistic Director Brenda Way are thrilled to announce Mia J. Chong as Co-Artistic Director. Chong currently serves as ODC/Dance’s Staging Director, and will step into her new role this December. She is also the founder and artistic director of EIGHT/MOVES, a contemporary dance company in San Francisco.

Chong has been a part of the ODC family since she was five years old – first as a student at ODC School, then as a member of the Dance Jam, ODC’s pre-professional teen dance company, followed by six seasons as a member of ODC/Dance, during which time she earned a coveted Princess Grace Award.

“I am deeply honored to step into the role of co-artistic director at ODC, a company that has long been a home for my artistic journey. The many years of guidance and partnership with Brenda and Kimi Okada have profoundly shaped me as an artist and leader. Together, I look forward to carrying ODC into its future with fresh eyes and a deep commitment to artists, audiences and community.”

Brenda Reacts to a viral dance trend from 2015 called "Hit Dem Folks" 💪 🔥

This viral dance took the internet by storm in the 2010's predating the influence of TikTok. It's movements are characterized by a repetitive are flexing movement with free-styled fast paced moves in between.

Brenda seemed to take a liking to this trend and joked that it would be in this year's Summer Sampler show 🤣

2 decades, hundreds of teaching artists, and thousands of students have danced together in our studios, and the truth is–we’re just getting warmed up!!

In honor of this momentous occasion we invite you to support the future of the Commons with gift to our 2026 H.O.M.E. Campaign.
