Fish String Theory, 2026 by @ant1bert1
A sound-embedded installation for hydrophone, sculptural fish forms, tensioned strings, machine-listening system, and large language model. Initiated through the As Above, So Below residency.
At the heart of the installation lies a paradox: fish are among the ocean’s most sonically expressive inhabitants, yet their communications often evade human perception. In the Posidonia meadows, fishermen and sailors have long reported a deep, percussive sound known as the “kwa,” resonating through coastal waters. Only recently was this mysterious signal linked to Scorpaena species through the identification of a distinctive sonic apparatus.
Fish String Theory is a listening installation attuned to forms of communication in the Mediterranean Sea that unfold beyond human language. Taking its point of departure from the sound-producing anatomy of Scorpaena, the work reflects on a vocal mechanism in which tendon-like structures resonate in water like strings. Bertin adopts this anatomy as both model and metaphor. Underwater recordings from the Giudecca Lagoon are brought into dialogue with sculptural fish forms fitted with tensioned threads, activated not by human hands but by a machine-listening system trained on Mediterranean marine soundscapes.

On May 8, during the preview days of @labiennale, One Ocean Foundation and ZEITGEIST19 opened the doors to AS ABOVE, SO BELOW - a collateral event of La Biennale di Venezia Arte 2026 🌊
Featuring works by Marshmallow Laser Feast, Antoine Bertin, Yoko Shimizu, Elnara Nasirli, Andrea Crespi, Almagul Menlibayeva, Suad Gara and Orkhan Mammadov, the exhibition opened a contemplative space to reflect on a simple yet urgent question: how can we learn to listen again? To remember that we do not exist separate from nature, but emerge from it.
We gathered for a quiet celebration thanks to @tociavenezia at Fabbrica H3 @serendpt, where the first edition of AS ABOVE, SO BELOW remains on view until June 8.

AS ABOVE, SO BELOW is now discoverable on @particle____
Created by @oneoceanfound in collaboration with @ZEITGEIST19 — part of the Particle Creators ecosystem — the project extends beyond the exhibition space through an audio thematic route that guides visitors across the artworks and the layered connections between artistic practices, memory, and planetary transformation.
Starting from the idea of the ocean as an archive, an atmosphere, and a living system, the route invites visitors to dive deeper into individual artworks and navigate the project at their own pace — before, during, and after the physical visit.

AS ABOVE, SO BELOW è ora disponibile su Particle!

Water Older Than the Sun (Caspian), 2025 by @almagul.menlibayeva and @suadgara
Multimedia installation comprising cybertextile, AI video, documentary footage, and fishing nets. Original Score by Reinhold Heil.
Water Older Than the Sun (Caspian) stages the Caspian Sea as both material presence and cultural archive, foregrounding Central Asian ecological realities too often treated as peripheral to global climate narratives. Real fishing nets gathered from the Caspian shoreline hang and pool across the room, transforming the space into a suspended littoral zone, part ruin, part sanctuary, carrying traces of a disappearing ecosystem and of the communities whose work, knowledge, and survival remain entangled with the sea. Extending the visual world of Suad Gara’s moving-image work into the installation’s physical field, this material presence becomes both sculptural environment and cinematic afterimage: threads of lived reality drawn inland, where absence becomes tangible. At the work’s core is Menlibayeva’s cybertextile, a woven image-surface fusing Central Asian weaving lineages with contemporary computational vision. It converses with the venue’s own palimpsest, once a church, later transformed into a textile factory, binding devotion and production into a single material grammar.

AS ABOVE, SO BELOW unfolds as a healing space for reflection, presence, regeneration and listening 🌊
One of the eight presented worlds, Seeing Echoes in the Mind of the Whale (2024–2025) by Marshmallow Laser Feast, is installed beneath Girolamo Pellegrini’s The Assumption of the Virgin (1672). The space transforms into a contemporary sanctuary for ecological contemplation, where whale vocalisations become an ancient language of planetary memory.

Presenting Seeing Echoes in the Mind of the Whale (2024–2025) by Marshmallow Laser Feast — an immersive audiovisual installation exploring the sensory world of cetaceans through sound, perception, and deep listening.
Following the journeys of a bottlenose dolphin, a humpback whale, and a sperm whale, the work invites audiences to encounter the ocean through the senses of these extraordinary beings — navigating through vibration, resonance, memory, and song.
Developed in collaboration with filmmaker Tom Mustill and the UPC Bioacoustic Applications Laboratory, the installation bridges scientific research and artistic expression, creating a profound meditation on our relationship with the living ocean.

Visit us and tune in to the healing sound of Nature.
A circular guide through the hidden languages of the living world. Move slowly. Each work is a signal from a system larger than us. This is not a route from beginning to end, but an orbit through sound, light, water, soil, and planetary memory. Listen first. The exhibition speaks in signals, currents, roots, and echoes.

At @ZEITGEIST19, a female-led curatorial collective intersecting art and planetary well-being, we believe in cross-sector collaborations and in the power of storytelling to fundamentally shift the conversation.
As a female-led curatorial collective, deeply grateful for the collaboration with @oneoceanfound for helping bridge art, ecology, planetary memory, and collective responsibility through this shared journey.
For this exhibition we were genuinely inspired by the principles of Hermetic wisdom, the interconnectedness between everything and merging all these invisible to the eye dimensions. We hope to covey the message to slowing down and tuning in above, below and within.
