Employees under 18 have specific protections under Alberta’s laws and we take them seriously.⁣

Regular employment rules that apply to youth include: ⁣
✅ Overtime ⁣
✅ Vacation pay ⁣
✅ General holidays ⁣

Some rules are specific to their age, like the types of work they can do and work hours.⁣

Employers and young workers, let’s work together to build safe, fair and lawful workplaces.⁣

We are building Western Canada’s first provincial forensic DNA laboratory that will help police solve crimes faster and bring cases before the courts sooner. ⁣
DNA testing helps police identify suspects by comparing biological evidence, such as blood, hair or saliva, found at crime scenes. Currently, most DNA evidence must be sent to a federal laboratory, often resulting in months-long wait times. ⁣

The laboratory will be located at the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) facility in Sherwood Park and will open in phases. By 2029, it is expected to begin accepting DNA evidence from property crimes, with expansion to serious crimes — such as homicides and sexual assaults —by 2031.⁣

Two key initiatives are driving growth in Alberta’s defence sector. ⁣

The LIFT initiative allows the Alberta Aviation, Aerospace and Defence Council to bridge gaps that have historically hindered thedefence sector in Alberta. ⁣

We are also supporting the Foremost Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Test Range by funding work to develop a sustainable, long-term operating model.⁣

With these supports, we are cleared for takeoff, strengthening collaboration and propelling innovation to new heights across the province.⁣
