📺Inspired by the FRIES model of consent—Freely Given, Reversible, Informative, Enthusiastic, Specific—Artist Xin Xin,@xinemata tells us they developed “TogetherNet” alongside software developer, Charlotte Yaqing Wen, Eyebeam alums and lead project writer Neema Githere, and project advisor Lauren Lee McCarthy, @laurenleemack.
•
🔮
TogetherNet, a “peer-to-peer communication software designed for micro communities to archive private and public chat logs,” connects the ideas of “sovereignty, democracy, and community as they relate to archives, including those in the digital sphere.” The project melds the ethos of data transparency and consent, with the purpose of transforming digital rights policies, such as the right to be forgotten, into an embodied practice that reimagines online social interaction and the protocols and architecture used to connect us all.

Visited the @_solar_lab in Brussels and met the impeccable duo @joanielemercier and @juliettebibasse. I left feeling so inspired by the environmentally friendly media art they’ve been diligently conceiving, powered by the wind and the sun. The duo is going on a journey across the Atlantic on a boat, setting up a temporary art studio on the ocean before landing in NYC and the West Coast. Wishing you the best of luck 🌊🚢

🔊Join us at (@Secret_Riso_Club) on Monday, November 17, 6 - 8:30 PM ET, to welcome Xin Xin, @xinemata, back to the East Coast for an evening conversation with Bahareh Khoshoee, @khoshoee, and moderator Julia Kaganskiy, @juliaxgulia.
Eyebeam Artist Alum Xin Xin’s bio:
Xin Xin (林心瑜) is a Taiwanese-American cultural producer exploring community-driven technology in creative and educational spaces. As creator of @togethernet and co-editor of the Critical Coding Cookbook https://criticalcode.recipes, Xin advocates for liberatory software culture through the reclamation and subversion of power dynamics embedded within digital systems.
Born in Taipei and raised in Massachusetts, Xin brings a multicultural perspective to questions of technology and sovereignty. Identifying as non-binary and anarcho-feminist, their genre-nonconforming practice weaves together art, education, organizing, and technological experimentation—interrogating who controls technology, who benefits from it, and the power of collectives in building a more equitable digital future. An Eyebeam Rapid Response for a Better Digital Future Fellow and @sundanceorg Art of Practice Fellow, Xin’s work has been exhibited internationally at @arselectronica, @humanresourcesla, @zku.berlin, and @kunstvereinwolfsburg. They have been a resident artist at @massmoca, @santafeartinstitute, and @pluginica. Xin works with @processingorg to support open-source software for artists and teaches as Assistant Professor of Interaction and Media Design at @thenewschool, where they work with emerging practitioners to develop critical and socially-engaged approaches to technology and design.

Is your AI project rooted in the struggles of the people?
In 2025, I’ll be joining @dreamingbeyondai’s hybrid residency as a mentor. Partially taking place in Barcelona, Spain, the program focuses on coalition building in times of AI - an artist-activist residency exploring the production and nurturing of resistance coalitions from those impacted by technological harm.
I’ll be mentoring artists and activists who engage with topics around tools-production to organise against AI violence, resistance coalition-nurturing and digital knowledge archiving.
Visit @dreamingbeyondai for application links.
