“Filthy Spasm” is a very raw performance by me and Sylvia that took place at the Lunar New Year Eve of this dragon year. It was a project that salutes to the insomnia, possession that happened in unstable dreams, and velvet feelings of intimacy. In the trance on stage we activated a visceral and radical year of 🐉. Many thanks to dearest @magaliacult for inviting us to partake in their album release show! It was such a cute experience to perform among a lineup of beautiful friends that night ;p

“For the moment, I am not fucking, I am talking to you. Well! I can have exactly the same satisfaction as if I were fucking.”

Join us for 4 autumn weeks as we discuss Alenka Zupancic’s book What is Sex? as well as an introduction to Lacanian Psychoanalysis. We’ll meet on Wednesdays (10/30-11/20) from 630-830 @telos.haus in East Williamsburg/Bushwick. Limited space DM @riverspeakk or use link in bio if you’re interested🧿

“This (quote above) is the example that Lacan comes up with to illustrate the claim that sublimation is satisfaction of the drive, without repression. We usually tend to think of sublimation in terms of a substitute satisfaction: instead of “fucking,” I engage in talking (writing, painting, praying …)—this way I get another kind of satisfaction to replace the “missing” one. Sublimations are substitute satisfactions for a missing sexual satisfaction. The point that Lacanian psychoanalysis makes, however, is more paradoxical: the activity is different, yet the satisfaction is exactly the same. In other words, the point is not to explain the satisfaction in talking by referring to its “sexual origin.” The point is that the satisfaction in talking is itself “sexual.” And this is precisely what forces us to open the question of the very nature and status of sexuality in a radical way.”

Thanks to all who visited us so far at SPIRITUAL MACHINES curated by @ameliapractice and @lynkeeart which opened on August 17th. In case you missed… Here’s our spotlight on a work by Sylvia Ke @riverspeakk.
On view Aug 17-Sept 22 with performances on Sept 21 by MIDHEAVEN OR NAH, Ursula Endlicher @ursulaendlicher and Adelle Lin Yingxi @adellelin

2023, Custom software, custom hardware
天机: Cosmic Computing Unit is an interactive installation inspired by the divination process described by Yi-Ching. Fortune telling in Mandarin, 算命, can also be translated as 'computing fate'. This coincides with the divination process documented in Yi-Ching which is entirely based on binary arithmetics, and coincides with the foundation of all modern digital computers. The installation essentially automates the Taosist divination by transcoding location (longitude and latitude, time (season, year, month, date, and time of day), a sigil that the viewer drew in the air and captured by a hand tracker, and a random input (cardinal directions of fallen stickers) into binary numbers and computes through digital clock and computer vision, and computes the divination output for the viewer. The computation process will be visualized as generative graphics and music compositions.

Exhibition Hours: Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, noon-5pm
For more information: spiritualmachines.neocities.org
Exhibition featuring works by: @andressenra @gabeduggan @sophiekahnstudio @inherinterior carlosdavidtc @adellelin @chun_hua_catherine_dong @leetusman @delgado_studio @nimrodastarhan @lendasock @coralinarodriguezmeyer @religionvirus @ladykstudios @twinart @riverspeakk @ambriente @afutureancient

Opening tonight: Shimmering Bodies

On April 16th through April 20th Millennium Film Workshop will host Shimmering Bodies, a group art exhibition, screener and performance event. Displaying the work of 16 different queer and trans artists across the world. Central to our curatorial mission from the Shimmering Bodies team will be an April 16th Screening of Chocolate Babies, along with a Q&A by Stephen Winter.

The works explore the temporal, spiritual and material rendering of transformation that exercises itself through desire and memory. The act of becoming in this space is always an act of (re)membering of past lives and past futures.

A collective movement of transformation necessitates a collective struggle to articulate these memories. The group nature of this show attempts to multiply these becomings into a collectivity. Transforming the gallery space into a pluralistic dialogue for fugitivity.

In person Q&A with Dir. Stephen Winter after film April 16th 7PM

“Can we give tomorrow a name?

How could we yearn for the memories to come?

The shimmers of futures walk among us. Do we owe them anything?”

Friends and lovers, @tempestcreation and I are curating an art show centering gender queer and GNC artists. Link in bio for the submission form <3

“As we trace the legacy of Marsha P. Johnson to Cecelia Gentili we want to foreground a conception of liberation that necessitates a temporally fluid, critical, and holy fabula.

We are looking to showcase trans and gender-nonconforming artists engaging with bodies and temporality, through the material and the immaterial. All mediums of visual arts, films, sound recordings, written words, and performances that echos queer history or yearn for queer futures are welcome for submission.

Show time: April 16th - April 20th
Opening time: April 16th, 6-9 pm
Screening and performance schedules TBD”

Reference In order:
Alvin Baltrop, The Piers, 1975-1986
Miles Greenberg, Late October, 2021
Shu Lea Cheang, Sex Fish, 1993
Kit Meadows, Hands in Water, 2023
