Women in Charge 08 in Montreal with @neverwasaverage was another answered prayer. Any opportunity to be both mirrors and windows (in the words of Lucille Clifton), students and teachers is a dream realized.

Thank you @byjoannache @sandrinecharles @nataliemanuellee @lrpeoples @jenniferpauline for bestowing your wisdom, time and gifts. Thank you to every woman who showed up and shared space with us. Thank you @harryjulmice for being an incredible collaborator and @why.join for being the most intentional partner.

This is what it feels like to be both blessed and a blessing.

As we approach our milestone birthday, we’ve been reimagining how we show up in the world. While we will continue to produce our own intimate gatherings and work with clients, something else has been on our hearts.

A hub that features a thoughtful selection of hyperlocal gatherings, curated by trusted sources. Our research led us to programs gated within a membership club or on a platform filled with noise. So, we’re becoming what we desire.

Introducing Offline, our monthly edit of culture-forward gatherings where community, care and connection converge.

Starting with Los Angeles, this month we’re giving away three tickets to:

Office Hours with @suppa.club
To Pimp a Butterfly 33 1/3 with @reparations.club

One for the solo-curious, two for friends and partners.

Text OFFLINE WITH/EVENT NAME to 310-356-9548 to be notified when the tix are live.

Less, but better has arrived.

Issa Rae recently shared in an interview that she doesn’t feel successful unless she has an active project in the world. It hit me, because so often we measure our work by its timing. What’s current? What’s visible? What’s “out?”

But some work isn’t defined by relevance. Some work leaves a residue that transcends the moment.

Our first Women in Charge retreat, Inner World, reminded me of that. The day ended, but its imprint is still shaping us. That’s the kind of work that outlives the calendar, it nourishes and continues to unfold from within.

We’re quiet right now. Building what’s next. And grateful for the kind of impact that doesn’t disappear when the moment passes.

With love,
@jenniferpauline

Connection is a practice. Containers are the vessel. Conviction is seeing a void and filling it.

This one took a while to write because it took a while to understand (and it’s still unfolding).

Care takes shape in many ways. Sharing wisdom, breaking bread, well wishes and support are just a few of its forms. That’s what this room offered for an intimate celebration of first-time director @aleshea.harris debut film Is God Is. Facilitated by the ever so gracious @marabrockakil at her studio @fromthewc.

What a joy to tend to fertile ground. Is God Is, in theaters this Friday May 15.

This week’s edit reminds us that when we carve out space for creative presence we’re opening ourselves up to more optimism, novelty, and new visions for what’s possible. We’ve been noticing a collective sense of overwhelm, and a yearning for creative works that ground us in our humanity. People are craving art they can feel, experience, and participate in, in the present moment.

In honor of sharing in that creation, we are offering two tickets to the @thedonbrowncollective showcase this evening: a debut show at the Townhouse in Venice. A beloved musical act out of South Central, the Don Brown Collective continues to remind us how connective art can be through their live performances across varying communities.

To learn more, join our mailing list to receive the full edit bi-weekly. Link in bio 🤍

When we think about belonging and meaning-making, we think about the role of the container builder. The person who creates space, physical or virtual, for others to step into, to reflect, to feel seen and held.

No Small Talk is ours, but we believe everyone has a container to build. Our work began with clarity:

    1. How do we want to serve?
    2. Who do we want to serve?
    3. Why are we uniquely positioned to do so?

This same inquiry guides @bywayof.us in building It’s Okay To Try. On Saturday, for part 2 of our series on Reclaiming (Y)our Originality, we’ll unpack these questions and support attendees in shaping the foundations of their own containers.

Our communities are fractured, yet the desire for real connection hasn’t gone anywhere, it’s only grown stronger. As we reclaim our originality, we’re also invited to reconsider how we show up with and for one another.

As risky as visibility can feel, it’s also the entry point to belonging. It’s the bridge between who we are as individuals and how we experience community collectively.

In conversation with NST alumni @hiimsarahjames, founder of @bywayof.us and It’s Okay to Try, we’ll explore the foundations of cultural stewardship and why connection is essential to living a full, expressed life. Together, we’ll unpack how belonging is cultivated, how community is built with intention, and what it means to take responsibility for the spaces we’re a part of.

The call: we should all be community stewards.

If you’re craving deeper, more meaningful connection, this is an invitation to step in, and to help shape it. Beyond conversation, we’ll engage in the practice of tangible meaning-making and storytelling through personal zine development with It’s Okay to Try.

On Saturday, we gathered for part one of our series, The Reclamation of (Y)our Originality. With the help of our friends at @arcanabooks we made a home among art books. Each one a study of originality in its fullest form.

Moving from the inside out, we began by naming the pursuits we’ve kept hidden (intentionally or not) in a world designed to keep us distracted and overwhelmed. We asked: What would you be, say, do, make, or have if there were no consequences? Better yet, what would your inner child choose? That unrestrained version of you, the one that has been silent for way too long.

To pursue earnestness, to live as your authentic, unperformed self, requires dauntless audacity. Plus faith, a release of attachments, and the courage to ask for what you need.

For us, this is the hero’s journey, and what a joy to take it with our community. Thank you to all who joined 🤍

A few years ago, we launched our conversation club No Small Talk with @miriam_tinny as an antidote to catch-up culture. We wanted to create the space we were craving, one rooted in curiosity, discovery and deeper conversations around the human experience.

Something very important to us from the beginning was to move at our own pace and keep this gathering as a source of joy and connection. We know what can happen when the monetization monster comes to steal our hobbies.

After postponing our Season 4 launch last Fall due to some health setbacks, we’re so excited to return. This season’s theme remains the same, The Reclamation of (Y)our Originality.

What happens when we reclaim what’s ours and become unafraid to share our authentic (dare we say weird) selves with the world?

Part one taks place March 21st at @arcanabooks.

A few seats are left, link in bio.

As always, this is an intimate gathering. If tickets sell out, be sure to add your name to the waitlist to be notified of open space and our next meet-up.
