I just returned from an inspiring trip to the UAE, a place I’ve visited regularly since 2016. A cold call over a decade ago from Rashid Mohammed, CTO of Expo 2020 Dubai, began a great partnership with the country.

At the time, Expo was seeking a wearable partner to support health and safety. WHOOP had only recently launched hardware, but the team saw potential in what we were building. Within months, we formed a partnership that became one of our most important early collaborations.

Over the past decade, our presence in the UAE has expanded significantly and is now one of our largest global markets. I’ve visited nearly every quarter as we’ve grown Whoop.

Last week marked a major milestone. We announced that Whoop will open an office in the UAE, launch Arabic language in our app, expand health features, and invest in new research partnerships. We’re grateful for the support of @mubadala, who joined us for this announcement, and @2pointzerogroup who share our vision in the future of proactive health.

This year has brought real challenges for the UAE, but being there in person, I saw the resilience of this county firsthand. During my visit to Abu Dhabi, I had the opportunity to meet with HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, President of the UAE, and HH Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. What impressed me most was the clarity and resolve of their leadership. I left even more bullish on where the country is headed.

This guy! 14 years ago, when I first started building Whoop, I knew one thing for sure: the way we visualized and designed the data was going to be critical.

Because Whoop doesn’t have a screen, everything lives in the app. That gave us the opportunity to create a much richer data experience. But it also meant the bar for how we presented that data had to be incredibly high.

So I went looking for the best. And not knowing any better searched “best information graphics designer in the world.” One click later and I found Martin Oberhauser, a data and information designer in Hamburg who was quickly becoming known as one of the most creative data visual designers of our time.

I reached out as a 22-year-old with little more than an idea to see if he would join. He said no. But I couldn’t stop looking at his work. I called again and asked if he’d meet me if I flew to Hamburg. “Do you have a reason to be in Hamburg?” // “Well no, I’m coming to meet you.”

I flew to Hamburg, knocked on his door, and the next hour together would shape the next 14 years. Martin decided then to join me on this journey and he’s been our lead designer ever since. The Whoop app has been shaped in large part by Martin and his incredible team across Germany and Boston.

This week, I was back in Hamburg for the first time since that trip. Martin and I shared the stage at OMR and got to reflect on everything that’s happened since. Whoop wouldn’t be what it is today without him and team and I’m so grateful. Hamburg will always have a special place in my heart.

Trying to lay off the booze? Maybe just get a Whoop 🤷‍♂️

We analyzed alcohol consumption patterns in 30,000 new WHOOP members over their first 72 weeks wearing the product, 11.6 million person-days of data.

A few takeaways:

→ The likelihood of drinking on any given day dropped from 23.0% to 17.2% (p<.001), roughly a 25% relative decrease

→ Average consumption declined by 1.11 drinks per week

→ Improvements were consistent across age groups and biological sex

→ Members reduced their intake whether or not they explicitly set out to change their drinking habits

Appreciate the collaboration from William von Hippel, Finnbarr Fielding, Christopher Chapman, David Presby, PhD, Josh Leota, PhD, Dr. Kristen Holmes, and the entire WHOOP team behind this work.

INTRODUCING NAVIGATOR 🧭🏔️Our most rugged and secure band ever.

Since founding WHOOP in 2012, we’ve held an incredibly high bar for introducing new band architectures. Our SuperKnit band is iconic for a reason, and we don’t move beyond it lightly.

Navigator began as an idea years ago from member feedback: “I want a band that no matter what, under any circumstances, will not come off.” In the early stages, we weren’t even sure if we could develop something that addressed this issue while meeting our brand standards. But as the designs evolved, something became clear: this was a band that captured the spirit of adventure that defines so many WHOOP members.

Navigator is built for the outdoors - with an ultra-secure fit, a no-slip adjustable closure, and abrasion-resistant materials designed to perform in any environment. It’s a band that emphasizes utility without compromising comfort. It reflects how our members actually live, train, and explore. And it definitely won’t come off.

Navigator is available starting today. Can’t wait for you to put it to the test in your next adventure 👊🏼
