Take a moment and imagine spending one full day without water. 💦

That’s one day without being able to brush your teeth, bathe, quench your thirst, water your plants, or even flush the toilet… Now what if we told you four billion people — almost two-thirds of the world’s population — experience severe water scarcity for at least one month each year.*

Sound wrong? We agree. This reality is a tough one to swallow… But the global water crisis is solvable if people like you and me choose to take action.

🌏 Here at Waves For Water, we believe that access to clean water is a fundamental human right. This is why we’re deeply committed to ensuring clean water access by implementing portable filtration systems, renovating borehole wells, and constructing rainwater harvesting solutions for communities around the world.

Over the past 14 years, we’ve:

💧 impacted 4.2 million people,

💧 responded to 42 disasters globally,

💧 currently have 16 active programs

💧 and worked in 48 countries!

And we couldn’t have done it without the support of our wonderful community who stands with us by *doing what they love and helping along the way*.

May is for mothers and so today we’re raising a glass (of clean water) to the women who carry entire communities on their backs.

In many parts of the world, moms and mother figures spend hours each day walking for water. But when clean water is made accessible, everything shifts.

🌊 Kids go to school
🌊 Women reclaim time, power, and possibility
🌊 Whole communities get stronger from the inside out

To the mothers brighter futures with heart and unstoppable drive: we see you. We salute you. And we’re with you 💙

Great recap from our Philippines office of what it looks like to do what you love and help along the way 💙

For some, impact work becomes a full-time path. But at its core, our ethos has always been bigger than job titles or sectors.

It’s all about plugging purpose into what you already love, where you already are, and bringing others along with you.

Thanks for sharing the journey, @angeliccdianeee and the @wavesforwaterphilippines crew 🌊

Wherever your passions take you, there’s room to make an impact:

💧 Donate: $45 can provide 6 families (30 people) with clean water for years.
💧 Become a Courier: Bring clean water access wherever your travels take you.
💧 Partner: Work with us to deliver clean water access where it’s needed most.
💧 Help spread the word

Run a 5K, fund clean water, and take it across the world. That’s exactly what this group out of North Carolina pulled off.

What started as a small campus run turned into 10 water filtration systems - powered by a handful of students, their community, and a decision to make it count 🏃

The drive behind it goes deeper. Time spent at Kopila Valley School in Nepal made one thing clear: access to clean water still isn’t a given, especially in the communities outside the city.

So they’re heading back with water filtration systems packed and a plan in place.

They’ll be working with students, running hands-on demos, and getting out into surrounding areas - implementing systems and sharing the knowledge so it sticks.

This is the model in action… do what you love and help along the way 💙

If you want to support the trip, back the filters, or just follow the journey - Links in bio.

Ten years ago, the ground moved and everything with it.

Entire stretches of coastline in Ecuador were reduced to rubble. Homes gone. Water systems down. Communities left figuring out what comes next.

We showed up the way we always do. As people, linking in with other people implementing water filtration systems, setting up water depots, moving supplies, and figuring it out as we went.

But what stays with us isn’t just the response.

It’s what was built in the middle of it. Trust, friendship, and connections that last after the dust settles.

We’ve been back to Ecuador more times than we can count. 10 years on we’re still here, and the work continues.

Not everyone steps into this work through a job title. Some step into it because they’ve lived it.

When Typhoon Xangsane hit, Patrick was six years old, walking for miles with family just to collect clean water. That memory stuck. Not as a story, but as a reference point for what happens when access disappears.

Fast forward, and that same lived experience now meets years on the ground - responding to typhoons, navigating crisis, and working shoulder to shoulder with communities to keep water flowing when it matters most.

This next chapter in the Philippines is about building systems that last.

We’re talking about real infrastructure for water, sanitation, and hygiene - designed with communities, built to scale, and ready to hold up in both everyday life and disaster 💧

Because access to clean water shouldn’t depend on the weather.

We’re stoked to have Patrick leading the way 💙

Fast forward, and that same lived experience now meets years on the ground - responding to typhoons, navigating crisis, and working shoulder to shoulder with communities to keep water flowing when it matters most.

This next chapter in the Philippines is about building systems that last.

We’re talking about real infrastructure for water, sanitation, and hygiene - designed with communities, built to scale, and ready to hold up in both everyday life and disaster 💧

Because access to clean water shouldn’t depend on the weather.

We’re stoked to have Patrick leading the way 💙

Not everyone steps into this work through a job title. Some step into it because they’ve lived it.

When Typhoon Xangsane hit, Patrick was six years old, walking for miles with family just to collect clean water. That memory stuck. Not as a story, but as a reference point for what happens when access disappears.

Fast forward, and that same lived experience now meets years on the ground - responding to typhoons, navigating crisis, and working shoulder to shoulder with communities to keep water flowing when it matters most.

This Earth Day we’re reminded that things can move.

Since 2000, 2.2 billion people have gained access to safely managed drinking water (WHO/UNICEF, 2025). That didn’t happen by accident. It happened because people showed up - with the right tools, alongside local communities, and got to work.

The planet holds the water, the water is here. Access is the gap we’re closing.

This is where we work - bridging that gap by implementing water filtration systems, building with local leaders, and making sure the knowledge stays put.

Earth Day is a reminder. Action is the follow through.

Ways you can help:

💧 Donate: $45 can provide 6 families (30 people) with clean water for years.
🤝 Partner: Work with us to deliver clean water access where it’s needed most.

🚰Though 71% of the Earth's surface is covered by water, only 1% is available for human consumption. This #EarthDay, we celebrate the work of Waves For Water (W4W), a non-profit founded in 2009 that tackles water scarcity in developing communities worldwide.

Over 14 years, W4W has implemented 155 clean water programmes across 50 countries, benefitting an estimated 4 million people and the Global Shapers Community is grateful to be part of this journey. Over the years, 16 Hubs have completed over 19 projects delivering clean water to 230,000 people.

🚌Most recently, the Cartagena and Riohacha Hubs joined forces — with Riohacha Shapers travelling 12 hours by bus to show up. Thank you for your drive and commitment.

On #EarthDay, our focus turns to water. 💧 As our water sources face growing strain amidst a global water bankruptcy, the impact is felt most at home, in schools, and across communities everyday. 🌏

This year’s theme, #OurPowerOurPlanet, is a reminder that people power our missions—communities, partners, and volunteers working together to care for water and each other. 💙 And at Waves For Water, we work with and for communities to build systems that last. 🌊
