Waterfall Arts
Public-access art center in Belfast, Maine. Offering art classes, workshops, exhibitions, community events, & outreach programming. #ArtIsForEveryone

Workshop update! We shifted the June 6th workshop so we can all attend the Belfast Pride Parade!
We’re incredibly honored to host the Transmissions Quilt Tour at Waterfall Arts this June 5–12.
Transmissions Quilts is a powerful project that commissions quilts for trans people—offering handmade markers of transition, care, and visibility. Across cultures and generations, quilts have held stories and honored change.
This project continues that lineage, creating space for trans individuals to see themselves reflected across time. Transmissions Poetry brings together quilts and works that explore the connection between text and textiles—poetry, story, and fabric woven together. This special exhibition is presented in collaboration with Trans Poetics Archive, Out in the Open, Belfast Poetry Festival, and Waterfall Arts.
Join us in the Clifford Gallery and be part of this meaningful experience:
June 5 | 5 PM Opening Celebration & Poetry Open Mic
June 6 | 11 AM–1 PM Transmissions/Lunilah text(ile) Workshop
June 7 | 10 AM–1 PM Hand in Hand: Poetry & Contact Improv Workshop
Come witness, reflect, and connect. This is a space built on care, creativity, and community. We are grateful for the opportunity to share it with you.

What happens when a gallery becomes a living, evolving canvas?
Make Your Mark transforms the Clifford Gallery at Waterfall Arts into an immersive, interactive environment inspired by street art—where you are part of the exhibition. Add a doodle, respond to a prompt, contribute to a growing wall of shared ideas, or create something entirely your own on the spot.
Just like street art, this exhibition invites you to pause, participate, and leave your mark. Over time, the gallery will shift and grow with each visitor’s contribution—reminding us that creativity thrives when everyone is included.
Program Director Amy @tingle shares, “I’ve always been drawn to street art… This exhibition transforms our gallery into an interactive space where visitors can add artwork and respond as the show evolves. I’m excited to see how the gallery transforms.”
📅 April 18 – May 29
🕐 Opening Reception: April 18, 1–3 PM
Free and open to all. It's Your Turn to MAKE YOUR MARK!

Have you had a chance to visit Make Your Mark before it closes on May 29?
Inspired by the spirit of street art, this interactive exhibition invites visitors of all ages to pause, participate, and leave something of their own behind—a drawing, a message, or a small artwork. Over the course of the exhibition, the gallery continues to grow and transform with every new contribution, reminding us that creativity flourishes when everyone is invited to take part.
Our Institutional Advancement Director, Katherine Devereux, MPS, recently reflected on the project in our blog post Before I Die: Time, Community, and a Shared Wall. Here’s a short excerpt:
"A wall filled with handwriting is not static. It accumulates. It revises itself. It holds traces of people who will never meet, yet are bound through a shared act of answering one question; Before I die, I want to… At first glance, the responses appear familiar. Some are expansive; travel the world, publish a book, learn to fly.
Others are intimate; forgiveness, be a better listener, not be afraid anymore. Still others resist aspiration altogether, offering instead a quiet register of presence; feel at peace, laugh more. Taken individually, they read as fragments of private intention. Taken together, they begin to function differently, becoming less a collection of statements than a record of how a community, in a given moment, understands time, death, and what it means to live."

Stop by the gallery before May 29 to make your mark!

Summer is the perfect time to try something new. We are gearing up for the change in seasons that brings visitors passing through, friends gathering, and a little more room in everyone’s schedule for creativity, exploration, and play. That’s why we love offering shorter, bite-sized workshops during these looser, more leisurely months—giving folks the chance to experience a new medium without committing to a full 6- or 8-week session.
In the hot shop especially, summer calls for a different rhythm. With higher temperatures and a focus on pacing ourselves, one-night workshops are the perfect fit—and we’re thrilled to be offering a wide variety for all skill levels. Beginners can jump in to make pint glasses, wavy bowls, and paperweights, while more experienced students can sharpen advanced techniques like rolling, tweezing, trimming, and pulling cane alongside a teammate in the shop.
We’re especially excited to have Brian teaching these classes this summer, sharing his expertise and passion with students of all experience levels.
There’s truly something for everyone, and summer always flies by faster than we think. Make the most of it—come create with us. 🔥

From salvaged glass to “magical trash,” artist Davy Blackmon’s creative journey is anything but ordinary.
Originally from Pensacola, Florida, Davy’s work has always been shaped by building—piece by piece—and by a lifelong connection to music and making. After a hurricane in 2004 led him to create mosaics from broken glass, his path evolved through stained glass and, more recently, into intricate paper sculpture made from discarded materials. “I want to instill wonder,” he says. “The wonder that I see in the mundane.”
Now based in Belfast, Davy brings this perspective to Waterfall Arts, where he’s teaching in a classroom setting for the first time. His approach blends process, play, and hands-on exploration—even incorporating pizza-making as a way to think about structure, creativity, and breaking things down into parts.
Join Davy for an 6-week workshop and learn how to transform the everyday into something meaningful.
