IM MAKING A LIST OF FEMALE & GENDER DIVERSE DJ’s IN VANCOUVER,DROP A COMMENT & TAG A FRIEND.

I’m hearing a lot of excuses as to why it’s so hard to fill up lineups in a way that is fresh and diverse.
Honestly? I’ve never had an issue finding high quality DJs from ALL walks of life.
I think to an extent, when you work hard to establish safer spaces, and show that you’re booking these people, suddenly marginalised artists feel more comfortable reaching out, attending shows and getting involved. But it starts with the promoter.

I’m going to compile of spreadsheet of gig ready female, trans, and under platformed artists. If this is you, drop a comment, I’ll add you in.

Tag your friend who deserve to be platformed! If you’ve had tons of opportunities, think of someone who hasn’t had the same chance to grow and practice their skills.

DMs are always open! If you’re afraid to speak up, or nervous about backlash, let’s chat. Never stop taking up space.

This International Woman’s Day I heard of more women getting fucked over by men in positions of power than ever before. I’ve spoken with my peers and the consensus is clear: male promoters and artists both globally and locally are not doing enough. You’ve gotten away with the bare minimum for so long, the concept of actual equity has been lost in tokenisation and half assed equality.

50% women, queer BIPOC? Fuck that, we have been attending all male lineups for decades and no one bats an eye. How about you book ALL marginalised artists and stop asking for a fucking cookie. Do better.

As mentioned above, I’m looking at specific people and promoters in the city. If you think this is you, now is your chance to open the conversation and take accountability, I’ll even help but this window is closing. Soon your male centric ego indulging events will be obsolete.

Tell your friends, tell your men, tell them you’re not coming to their show. Do it again publicly, why tf are we still be nice?
