The Vancouver Aquarium is thrilled to welcome the arrival of sea otter pups Tofino and Luna from @vammrs! Tofino is currently in the upper otter habitat and is available to view at the Aquarium! Luna remains in critical care and is being monitored by animal care and veterinary staff.
We're excited to announce the establishment of the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society, a new non-profit organization that will work in partnership with the Vancouver Aquarium! Donations will go directly to VAMMR as they expand their efforts to give marine mammals a second chance at life. Learn more at vammr.org.
It's finally #SeaOtterAwarenessWeek! It's been a little while since we did a video like this, and a few new rescued otters have joined us at the aquarium since then — so whether you're here for the first time or just need a refresher, it's time to Meet the Otters.

This past weekend was harbour seal Donnelly's 5th rescueversary! Rescued after a boat strike near Twin Islands and deemed non-releasable by Fisheries and Oceans Canada due to her injuries, Donnelly was confirmed to be pregnant at the time of her rescue. She successfully gave birth to a pup, Dory, at the rescue centre, who was perfectly healthy and able to be released back into the wild in October of 2021! Donnelly was transferred to the Vancouver Aquarium around the same time. Happy rescueversary, Donnelly!

This weekend, we observed World Fish Migration Day! The coho salmon at the Vancouver Aquarium come to us from the Capilano River Hatchery in North Vancouver, built in the 1970s to strengthen depleting salmon stocks due to the Cleveland Dam. From July to October, you can see adult coho salmon using the fish ladder at the hatchery to migrate back from the ocean.

Happy #WorldTurtleDay! You can find turtles like the Hilaire's side-necked turtle, mata mata and pig-nosed turtle in our Amazon and Tropics galleries!

As a reminder, sea otters Hardy, Mak, Tazlina and Quatse will be transferred to Aquarium du Québec in early June. The transfer of our four otters will create capacity for the Vancouver Aquarium to provide care to future rescued sea otters. Hardy, Mak, Quatse and Taz will be on exhibit on weekends through May 31.

11 years in Vancouver, and somehow it was my first time visiting the aquarium. Thanks to my brothers’ tourism pass haha.
It was crowded, loud, and full of kids running everywhere, but I still had such a good time. The jellyfish were probably my favorite part — there’s something so calming and unreal about watching them float around like tiny glowing clouds.

This is a spotted garden eel — or at least a third of one! These conger eels dig a burrow that they rarely leave, and nibble at plankton that float by for food.

The eponymous tail of the spiny-tailed monitor can be twice the length of its abdomen! The ridged tail can be wedged into rock crevices to prevent the monitor from being pried out by potential predators. Find this lizard and much more in our limited-time Dragons exhibit!
