Few years ago, following lil b’s album, I became obsessed with the idea of ambient rap.

For almost six years I have been collecting and making edits. Some ethereal, some blissful, some more orchestral..

Decontextualize to hear deeper, to access another level of sensibility, to reveal an impossible essence. Something that could reach beyond the performative realness that often defines rap music’s sonic narratives.

For a long time I wanted to make a mixtape out of it. An alternative storytelling that would sounds, perhaps almost even feels, like a peaceful tormented ocean filed with angelic alien voices, an immersive yet attention-grabbing liquid tale in which your ego could melt while your body would vibes.

Here we are.

One hour of highly emotional based music to let yourself float, far away from your daily hustle.

Few years ago I wrote a piece on the politics of deconstructed club music. It will be reissued in the new @audimateditions maxi, along an amazing selection of writings they published over the last 10 years.

For the occasion, we will be giving a talk with @julie__ackermann at @doc_wooork, in an attempt to understand the emerging forms of authenticity in a post-ironic age ; Queer extasy in Sophie’s music and hyper-folklores.

See you there. 👋

Special thanks to @pablo_altar, @moimemedetente and @guillaumeheuguet for making this possible and @pierre_vanni for the visual.

Has the future really been canceled ? Why dystopia often seemed to be the only way out ? 🔥⚔️⛓️

The second part of this series starts by exploring the 2000’s haunted nostalgia and pessimism toward the future :
pop culture eating itself, prisoner of its own past, the internet creating an ocean of archive that dissolves our will to innovate, turning the archivist and the curator into the ultimate cultural producers.

An infinite present with no future, a centralized museum, taken by storm in the early 2010s by the dystopian fururism of the GHE20G0TH1K collective, using their turntables as devices to disrupt the narrow linear narrative of white patriarchy. 👹💿

This month show explores the emotional maximalism of trance music.

Since a few years, trance arpeggios and their nostalgic affective brutalism have become the backbone of a new kind of introspective electronic music for the @ generation.

In clubbing history, trance music represents the ultimate stage of commodification of the dance floor utopia. A climax before the breakdown, a synthetic week end escapism, the last bit of freedom and togetherness available in a neoliberal control society.

Beyond the pastiche, trance innocence and candour gave rise to an authentic form of self expression, an intimate sub genre of ambient music that uses trance emotional tuning ability and epicness in order to feel bigger and deeper together.
