The School of Architecture at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts has announced the appointment of Marc Manack, FAIA, as its new director, beginning August 2026 pending approval by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees.
Manack joins UIC from University of North Carolina at Charlotte Ravin School of Architecture, where he has served as a professor since 2016 and undergraduate program director since 2024. He is also the founding principal of SILO, an award-winning practice recognized nationally for its residential, experimental, and community-focused work.
Bringing more than two decades of professional and academic experience, Manack’s work examines how design process, project delivery, and architectural practice shape the built environment itself. Across teaching, research, and practice, he has consistently approached architecture as a cultural and creative instrument capable of generating meaningful public impact.
Prior to UNC Charlotte, Manack taught at the University of Arkansas, Kent State University, and Ohio State University. His practice, SILO, has received recognition from organizations including The Architectural League of New York, Architect Magazine, and AN Interior, and was recently elevated to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows.
As director, Manack will work closely with faculty, staff, and leadership across the College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts to continue advancing the school’s mission of bridging theory and practice while preparing students for an evolving discipline.
“Insisting that architecture remain intellectually rigorous, design-focused, and publicly accountable, the UIC School of Architecture is a leading voice shaping the discipline of architecture,” said Marc Manack. “I am excited to build upon the school’s reputation for design ambition while expanding the ways our work is imagined, produced, and shared—connecting creative projects with forms of practice that make a meaningful difference in the world.”

Three School of Architecture students awarded the 2026 UIC Kokkino Educational Fund Scholarship.
The School of Architecture and CADA are pleased to announce Gabija Gricius (@gabijagabie), Racheal Olujide, Toluwalogo (Tolu) Oluyede (@_lula.doodles), and Sofiia Romanets (@rromanets.s) as the 2026 recipients of the UIC Kokkino Educational Fund Scholarship. A total of ten Kokkino Scholarships have been awarded since its inception in the 2022–2023 academic year. Evangel (Angelo) Kokkino, a 1971 alumnus of the School of Architecture, made the gift along with his daughter, Sofia Kokkino Patton, in memory of his mother. Kokkino practiced architecture in Chicago; his career has involved leading architecture/engineering practices locally and overseeing large capital programs and projects around the world.
