We are now in the final two weeks to see Noelle Africh, "Signal".

Don't miss Africh's transformative approach to painting and their unique use of distemper. Composed of pigment, chalk and a glue binder, distemper is amongst the earliest traditional painting materials. Its quick preparation and economical application later made it common in scenic painting for theater and architecture. Africh approaches the medium not as a stable historical technique but as a volatile material system, probing the limits of its physical and representational qualities.

"Noelle Africh’s solo exhibition 'Signal' at Twelve Ten is gut instinct turned preserved layer. Working in the unwieldy medium of distemper paint, Africh coyly remembers, shyly announces, and resolutely denounces in their paintings throughout the space. The oscillations are as diverse as a medium of rabbit-skin glue, chalk and pigment wants—doesn’t want—to be. Layers of translucent paint soak and stain… Then they transmogrify into their final state."
