Sending love to everyone in Toronto, Canada, and all across the world. No matter what distance keeps us apart, we'll still find ways to make music together and celebrate the gifts of spring. ❤️🎶🌎

Like so many across the world, we’ve imagined how loved ones in long term care and assisted living facilities are coping with the stresses of Covid-19. ⠀

@jeffreybeecher produced this nostalgic arrangement for the incredible @torontosymphonyorchestra Brass Section featuring @meashabrueggergosman with the Silent Generation in mind, wanting to give a musical air hug and share some joy while we’re all in isolation. ⠀

Do you remember the first time you heard an orchestra perform live?

For Leonie, it all started in Ottawa—from the buzz backstage at her father’s operetta performances to evenings spent watching the @nac.cna Orchestra. That’s where she first heard the flute and felt something click. She started playing at eight years old and never stopped.

Now a flutist with the TSO, she helps create those same first moments for young listeners across the city. And she’s seen it again and again: kids’ eyes lighting up, questions spilling out, that spark when something new begins to take hold.

➡️ Swipe to see young Leonie and where it all began.

What you don’t see 👀

It’s not just the performance. For Associate Principal Flute @kayla.burggraf, it’s often about balancing multiple programs a week, all while maintaining the daily fundamentals that make it possible.

Watch more in our latest episode of Meet the Orchestra 🔗 link in our bio.
