Well here we go. My second album ‘The Hedge Maze and The Spade’ is out today. I’m immensely proud of this record. Having conceived and held onto this album for such a long time it’s a source of great excitement to see these songs finally shared with you. They are onto the next leg of their journey and I hope you find something in them.
Unquantifible thanks to @hilaryomahony for helping me through the process when things were thick and when things were thin. Dedicated to Maura O’ Dwyer and her presence. Her passing away was the catalyst for all this creativity.

This year marks 10 years since I first started the Trick Mist project. I moved to Manchester, set up a tinnie tinny ‘studio’ space in a walk-in wardrobe in the flat I was living in and learned Ableton. I found a pristine fiddle in a wheelie bin, started messing around with tin whistle and bodhrán, figured out how to make beats and started amassing samples and manipulating them. It was a class time, the fruits of that energy are distilled onto an EP called ‘Jars in Rows’. Few bits from that time including videos by @greyeggzandham and @video_blue from an adjoining series. I’ve been getting deeper into sean-nós singing of late. I’ve always had a preoccupation with this singing and utilised it in my own music but I had never actually sat down and attempted to learn it. In February my friends afforded me a great privilege, asking me to sing the song for their wedding ceremony. It was so much fun learning some of the techniques and learning a song in Irish. I’ve loved this song since I first heard Muhamad Al Hussaini’s version way back in 2015. My version is an amalgamation of his and Iarla Ó lionáird’s. The extreme emotional intensity of the singing is a match for the moment. Xx
