Yesterday, Kids Help Phone and TMU announced a five-year research partnership to support to usher in a new era of youth mental health and received $3.2 million from Wellcome to develop an AI-powered training tool for mental health crisis workers.

The project brings together seven TMU researchers from three TMU faculties alongside the Kids Help Phone team. Their goal is to build a simulator that lets frontline workers and volunteers practice responding to young people in crisis, then receive real-time feedback on how to improve.

“We are proud to work with community partners like KHP to find innovative and interdisciplinary solutions, and develop future focused approaches, to better equip those who are on the frontlines supporting our young people today, and in the future,” said Mohamed Lachemi, President and Vice-Chancellor, TMU.
