Tops is excited to present Eileen Havant Townsend’s solo exhibition The Mystery of Cave Island, opening on Saturday April 25th from 5-7:30pm
In her first solo exhibition, The Mystery of Cave Island, Los Angeles-based artist Eileen Havant Townsend presents eight dioramas of rocky landscapes alongside eight graphite drawings. Within each diorama, tufts of grass and jagged rocks surround portal-like ponds, with snapshot images held within. The graphite drawings reimagine the sculptures as flat tracery. In Cave Island, Townsend imagines new passages from the sprawl of Los Angeles’s dusty valley into the surrounding San Gabriel chaparral and back again.

Kevin Ford has been as big of a part of Tops Gallery as any artist over the past decade. He has had four solo exhibitions at the gallery and he curated the massive group exhibition Metafiguration along with Sean McElroy, whose essay appears in this book. Kevin has had memorable presentations with Tops at art fairs in Miami and Dallas and he has contributed to the gallery in enumerable ways large and small. This book is a must have for any fan of Kevin Ford’s art!
HERE surveys a decade of Kevin Ford’s work with wit, curiosity, and a deep attentiveness to how paintings come into being. The book traces a practice rooted in looking—at objects, bodies, landscapes, and the everyday materials that quietly shape our lives. Through painting, familiar subjects are used to explore larger questions about memory, desire, and the unstable space between abstraction and representation.
HERE is also a record of community and creative resilience. It documents exhibitions and collaborations that emphasize conversation and shared experience. HERE presents art as a social act sustained by friendships, shaped by place, and animated by the idea that humor, generosity, and curiosity are essential tools for making sense of the world.
In addition to photographs of Ford’s work, studio practice, and curatorial projects, HERE features essays by Matthew Griffin, Sean McElroy, Matt Ducklo, and Kevin Ford. Published in 2025 with the support of TOPS gallery, MARCH, and 12.26.
Designed by Studio Bueno, printed in Canada. 8 x 6 inches, 240 pages.
HERE is available for purchase on the Tops Gallery website store
